Whats so great about Jeeps?

I own Wranglers because I’ve found them to be reliable and they do what I need/want them to do. I also have a great Jeep dealer nearby.
I come from a “Ford family” but the nearest Ford dealers are unimpressive- to say the least.
Same here, though we started buying FCA because I'm friends with the owner of the dealership, but have been very happy with the vehicles we've purchased. My wife would own a 392 Wranger if the prices weren't so insane. I couldn't justify spending the money for a Trackhawk, so I'm sure as heck not able to justify the same amount for the same 392 I have in my SRT for $40K more.

The price of the Willys 392 they dropped a couple months ago is better, but still way too high. In fact, Jeeps are still overpriced. I would most likely get a GMC Canyon or Ford Ranger if I needed to replace my Jeep today. You get much more for the $$$ with a small truck.

An AMW V8 though.....that would be tempting if my 3.6L dies.

I maintain the only reason they are special and desirable (to true Jeep enthusiasts) are being exclusive to solid f/r axles outside of three quarter ton and larger work trucks. This is why a TRUE jeep enthusiast is a repeat owner and never really swayed by Broncos, 4Runners/FJ Cruisers etc. Jeep knows Ford, Toyota etc aren’t going back in time for a less sophisticated, costly solid front axle that’s inferior 95% of the time (100% for most) so they’ll continue to be special unless Jeep caves in and abandons the front solid axle like everybody else did decades ago including themselves but the wrangler.

exactly this. that's why I have a Wrangler. If they switch, it'll be nothing special anymore. I'd get a Defender, Land Rover has perfected independent air suspension and has a better 4WD system anyway.

Some people love to work on cars. Jeeps even stock break constantly so you always have something to fix. Some people want their vehicles to break their spines when hitting road bumps and boy do Jeeps deliver in that capacity. Some people hate having money and if you spend the outlandish price on a new Jeep and all the money on repairs you will never have money.

So long story short I have no idea they are terrible in every possible way a vehicle can be.
oh

no not bad. how about those Toyota's give them gas and oil and they just roll on
I had a Toyota once.... The bitog spirit vehicle 1995 Camry with the 4 banger. It popped a head gasket after overheating once.... Meanwhile my 5.7 powered 2011 Durango hit north of 300F on the coolant twice due to a failed water pump, it got a new water pump and kept going till I traded it in.

nothing is built the same these days. I don't remember Toyota for this lack of quality and longevity

I have to hand it to GM, the 4x Auto feature on my Canyon and old Sierra was outstanding. Seamless operation that made them surefooted without "chucking". My F250 is exactly opposite.

This is very true. My F150 is actually fairly capable off-road, and I use it there often. The e-locker the F150 had is fantastic to have as well.

The solid axle does everything the F150 does, but better, feeling more sure footed. Take away the solid axle and I may as well just use the F150.

OK in the wide open desert, or a wheat field. Otherwise

Too long
Turns too wide
Terrible approach and departure angles.

Its amazing how much better my Xterra is off Road than my Frontier, and there built on identical platforms.

ditto. My Power Wagon was a beast and given enough room it could do some amazing stuff offroad but on technical trails it was too big. I know some of us have a different definition of offroad..

to me
this isn't offroad.

Yeah, no rocks in Iowa…. I wouldn’t take an F150 to the places in your pictures. It’s a goal to do that with my Jeep.
