2001 Taurus SES, 3.0L DOHC V-6 using:
  • 5.5 quarts of well-known Group IV, PAO, 5W-20 full synthetic, pre-Katrina oil
  • Amsoil EA011 filter

1992 Mitsu mirage 132k miles Advance auto oil 10w30 in auto-rx cleaning phase
1996 Pontiac Sunfire 134k miles Exxon superflo high mileage 10w30

2001 Mazda 626 ES-V6, KL Mazda Engine, 44K miles

Engine: Motorcraft 5w30
Tranny: Motorcraft Mercon V
Filters: WIX, oil and air (WIX or OEM only on my ride)
OCI: 2500-3500 miles

Will likely switch to 10w30 on my next oil change as winter is over.

Motorcraft oil has served me well. I've tried almost every major brand dino and while they are all decent, it's hard to beat the price of Motorcraft. I've also been happy with EM Superflo, as it is another inexpensive dino that seems to work well in my car. Previously i've been a Valvoline fan-boy, and while i still like it a lot (and it smells the best) it's price in relation to Motorcraft and Superflo make it slightly less attractive. I change my oil early and often, so anything i use will likely be ok.

I did notice a nice change for the better in smoothness and especially downshifts when i switched from Dexron III to Mercon V Semi-Synthetic Tranny Fluid. It's time for another flush and I'll be going with MC Mercon V again.

Curious how mixing a multi-vis with a single vis works out? Would that work out to being something along the lines of a 15w30?
