Someone gave me a case of old Type F and a case of old Dexron ATF. Is there ANY uses for these old fluids? They are at least 15 years old and I will not use them in any trans.

Chainsaw bar lube? Top off 1/2 qt. motor oil in a beater? Anything? All realistic ideas welcome, thanks.

Use them for Power Steering fluid changes.

If someone wanted to do a transmission fluid flush they could put the fluid to good use.

If you want to get rid of it fast, then post it for free on Craigslist, Kijiji or Freecycle.org.

I have heard this is possible, although I have never tried it myself. Any recomendations? What is the max amount I could use? Is there any danger doing this?

I was given a case of 20 year old Chrysler ATF and burned it off 4oz at a time per 25 gallons in the fuel tank. ATF is very low in zinc (generally under 100PPM, see ATF UOA/VOA). Upon borescoping the cylinders on my F150, they were clean as a whistle. My EGR throttle body tubes got clogged at 210,000 miles, though I don't know if this was a result. It took over 50K miles to get rid of all that ATF. This truck still has the original cats. I used some in my boat (7.4L) and lawnmower(18HP Kohler) as well. Anything over 4oz/25gal, and I would be concerned about lower octane numbers.

Save a couple of bottles for the "oil museum" maybe sending some in for a vintage VOA. Might try to sell some on eBay... there are vintage oil collectors. Recycle the rest.

Lots of people to this day add one qt ATF to their oil as they think it will clean their engine

Add a quart to the gas tank. It lubricates the FIs...

If recycling it is out of the question (yes...it is a petrol product....AZ, Advance, Walmart TLE, etc....will take it for recycle), I'd vote for motor oil top offs in a leaker....and light doses to the fuel :X

I think there was a very prominent member a year or so ago....that actually doses gas with ATF and didn't show any repercussions....

Put some in a sprayer and use it on things like door hinges.
Change the psf in a car using this fluid, then immediately use modern ATF or power steering fluid. Don't do this to certain European cars, and never do this to a Honda. Actually 15 year old ATF is in better shape than what you find in the reservoir of most people's cars.
I have heard that it makes a good fuel additive in diesel engines that have no DPF.
Do you know someone with a waste oil fueled heater? It will work there.

+1 better safe then sorry

When I was living on the west coast, I used to cover in it the first baby seal I could find. However, it's much harder to find baby seals in Texas, so I just drop it off at auto parts stores. AAP and O'Reilly accept it. You can also drop it at any chain auto mechanic shop (Firestone, etc)
