In the past I have always used Purolator PureOne oil filters but with this non case filter only the regular Purolator filter is available. How does a regular Purolator stack up against say a Wix?

"non case" filter meaning a cartridge filter, not a spin-on?

If so, I think all of the Purolator cartridge filers are rated at 97.5% @ 40 microns. Not sure what the WIX cartridge filters are rated at.

you can use any brand you like for regular oic, but should you like to an extended OCI than in your case you should look into following filters, as these brands make the cartridge filter for your make and model

Hastings
Baldwin
Luber Finer
Wix/NAPA

You may want to get OEM cartridge oil filter at Toyota dealer, it's a quality cartridge filter and may cost less than Purolator or Wix.

I was under the impression that Hastings was marketed as a lower end filter and geared more towards "oil change shops" but also sold over the counter.

It is true that they make filters for cars as well, but Hasting lube filters are still considered heavy duty, as they have larger capacity to hold dirt in comparison to a regular OEM spec meeting filter.

My wife has an XD. Today I looked in Advanced Auto and they had a Purolator and Fram cartridge filters for it. I know Fram is typically the worst but for these cartridge filters the Fram actually looked better than the Purolator. I was stumped so I held off and will look around some more.
