What makes honda VTM4/DPF2 so special and why aren't there any after market products?

What is in honda vtm-4 or dual pump fluid 2 for their rear differential’s specifically in my case for the 19 ridgeline, so special?

Why is there no after market products for it and why cant you just use regular gear oil?

Sorry for the dumb question but cant find much info other than honda forums where any talk of non oem fluid is an insta ban.

Those fluids are closer to ATF than gear oil. I'm not up on the differences between VTM-4 and DPF 2, but VTM-4 fluid resembles ATF. The DPF 1 I used in my CR-V was also more like ATF. If you were going to experiment, I would definitely NOT use gear oil. I'm thinking they have different friction modifiers that are specific to the clutch packs in the VTM differential. I am also curious what makes them so different from ATF.

I use the stuff too. But since I change every 30000 miles....and only needs a few quarts...Ill stick with OEM Honda Dual Pump Fluid....IMO...
