I use any spray oil. Corrosion X or TriFlow. That kind of thing. Easy and fast.
I like that idea.....!!!Would bar and chain oil work here?
I tried using motor oil in the past. After the first cut, I noticed I had a line of oil on me from my shoes to my waist. It just flung that oil off the chain. Then I found an old bottle of bar oil that took it's place. Still comes off a little, but nowhere as bad a the motor oil did.,,I use any random motor oil that I have laying around the garage. I put it in a trigger type oiling can.
Doesn’t matter if it’s 20/50, 5/30, 10/30 or 15/50.
I keep the oiling can filled up with leftover new oil from oil changes.
I also use the same oil in the oil reservoir of my chainsaw.
Yes, I should have mentioned, I think you just confirmed, I guess the lower viscosity of the motor oil certainly messes up a automatic chain oiler as it will continue to drip out when not using the saw. For me it doesnt matter, I use it so infrequently. Like once every year if that much.I tried using motor oil in the past. That would sure leave a nice thick coating of crap on your hedges. It's been a long time since using mine. In the past I have used motor oil, spray silicone, but after reading here, have come to the conclusion that bar/chain oil would probably be best. I think it is so thick as to not sling off readily as lighter oils will.
