What lubricant for hedge trimmer blades?

Third vote for FLUID FILM. This is the product you want to use. It's a lanolin based lubricant/metal protector that is perfect for this application. It doesn't harm the vegetation and it keeps your equipment clean. Spray the clippers down after each use.

I dont have the need anymore for hedge trimmers. When i did, i used spray vegetable oil, as it would not hurt the plants. After use i used wd-40 as it cleaned the gum and sap off. The Wd-40 will evaporate.

I use motorcycle chain lube, or Kroil, or what ever penetrant I have handy in the garage. I'm more likely to ruin the trimmer by catching it on a piece of chain link fence, then having it wear out.,,,

I use any random motor oil that I have laying around the garage. I put it in a trigger type oiling can.
Doesn’t matter if it’s 20/50, 5/30, 10/30 or 15/50.
I keep the oiling can filled up with leftover new oil from oil changes.
I also use the same oil in the oil reservoir of my chainsaw.
I tried using motor oil in the past. After the first cut, I noticed I had a line of oil on me from my shoes to my waist. It just flung that oil off the chain. Then I found an old bottle of bar oil that took it's place. Still comes off a little, but nowhere as bad a the motor oil did.,,

Yes, I should have mentioned, I think you just confirmed, I guess the lower viscosity of the motor oil certainly messes up a automatic chain oiler as it will continue to drip out when not using the saw. For me it doesnt matter, I use it so infrequently. Like once every year if that much.
This is just an inexpensive 16 electric saw. Ive had gas ones up in NY, the one I have now in the South is for infrequent use, though I did cut down some rather large pine trees with it, actually quite a few when we first moved here.

For hedge clipper? Plain old mineral oil. Two Buck a bottle at the Wally World. Cheap and it won't kill the plant life.

It's been a long time since using mine. In the past I have used motor oil, spray silicone, but after reading here, have come to the conclusion that bar/chain oil would probably be best. I think it is so thick as to not sling off readily as lighter oils will.

That would sure leave a nice thick coating of crap on your hedges.

How much of this stuff are you guys using that you're getting an appreciable amount anywhere?

For those of you who cut your own hair, too, do you dip your clippers in mineral oil or do you put one to three drops? Lube your outdoor trimmer like you lube your indoor trimmer.
