got this 26cc hedge trimmer from my brother long time ago since the blades were damaged it worked out better for him to get a whole new unit.
this was sitting in storage for couple of years and pulled it out yesterday since i bought an electric trimmer and saw it had a square shaft and maybe the blade poles would fit it which they did.
put fuel in and tried to prime it and it was leaking from the hoses which had cracked and discoloured probably due to age or something. bit surprising since it was stored dry.
checked my box of spares and found some what i think is new clear pvc hose which i used some of in the past on a syringe to suck up brake fluid.
being extremely lucky it was the perfect size (probably has id of 3mm) so made up some replacements and she fired up straight away and did the job.
the rubber bung that goes into the fuel tank is probably also going to need to be replaced since i saw some cracks on it too.
guess it does not help that the hose is submerged in the fuel too.
so question is whats the best stuff to use for fuel hoses these days? is there any particular material that will last a long time or forever or do i just buy a ready made kit as in the picture attached which comes in a 3 pack.
dunno if silicone hose would fair better or possibly nylon but i think thats too rigid for the tight bend stuff?
what do you guys suggest since i have my doubts about how long the fix i made will last.

Hard sometimes to get real Tygon - I have had it last for years in fuel service - or crumble hanging on a wall hook …

Go to Ace hardware and pick up a fuel hose kit.

You can find a wide variety of those yellow fuel tubes on Amazon. It's not real Tygon, but it seems to work well enough. Beware, though, because some are stiffer than others. It's a gamble, but a cheap one. Real Tygon can be bought, but it only comes in fractional sizes, which may or may not work for your application.

Stabil in regular E10 gas is fine, but ethanol free is better. Sadly, the only way to get E0 fuel in my area is to buy it from a hardware store. I do that for my lawn two-cycle equipment, but not my other stuff. That gets the "garage can" mix of E10 and marine stabil.

Yes my brother ran standard E10 in it.
I run high octane which is E5 and I use stabil in the fuel too these days. Will see how things last. Iv got plenty of this pvc hose lying around to do the job 5 times over so may as well make use of it.
How does PTFE hose fair with fuel?

There are two different grades of Tygon fuel hose commonly available and I believe the stiffer LP-1100 is more durable.
F-4040-A
• Resists embrittlement
• Compatible with most hydrocarbons
• Resistant to swelling
• Highly flexible, easy to install
• Specifically developed for fuels and lubricants
• Ozone and UV light resistant

LP-1100
• Conforms to new government regulatory
standards for clean air
• Fluoropolymer liner compatible with higher
ethanol blend gasoline
• Robust multi-layer design and construction
• Reduces hydrocarbon vapors escaping or
permeating into the atmosphere
• Wide temperature range from
-35˚F to 180˚F (-37˚C to 82.2˚C)
• Reduces photochemical smog
• High abrasion, cut and tear resistance for
longer service life
• Compatible with 100% ethanol

Stihl has good hose. The orange hose at Lowe's in the plumbing department is rated for fuel but it's awful

Hmm I may be able to just use some copper brake pipe since it bends easily and make up a union joint to connect to the carb. Surprised I didn't think of this sooner

Change the original sparkplugs on this trimmer, was a champion one. Put in a NGK non resistor plug was shocked how fast it fired up. Half a pull of the cord and it's purring away

I would always recommend a resistor plug and NGK (not Champion) but good to know it's running better.
