Aveo - 3mo/3k severe, 6mo/7.5k normal

Both cars qualify for severe service based on driving distances and only accumulate about 9k per year each. I have them on a diet of full synthetic 6 month schedule with changes in April and October to avoid being on my back under a car in mid winter. I would not hesitate to use a good dino for the same schedule, but I got 4 years worth of Synpower in the stash, and it was really cheap after rebates.

I just change mine every 3 months. This past time it was around 3200 miles or so. Lots of short trips and a few long highway runs. Going to do my very first uoa as soon as my Blackstone kit come in.

Nissan= 3 months or 3750 miles
Saturn= 3 months or 3000 miles
Toyota= 6 months or 3750 miles

So much for the "death" of the 3,000 mile oil change.

3000 miles. Since my driving is mostly short hops these days(most less than 8 miles, often less than 5) I'll stick to that. Looks like it's gonna take ~4 1/2 months to reach 3K- & that includes one very unusual day of driving almost 400 miles!

Escape 3000 severe,5000 normal I change at about 4000
Malibu has olm I usually change at about 4000 and 6 months
Taurus 3000 severe 5000 normal, I try to do it at 4000 but kids away at college so it will vary

Exactly, it hasn't changed much since the OM I have from 1988. In fact I have an OM from 1985 and Ford was suggesting 3 months and 3,000 miles then. Even with the improvements in conventional oils, there really wasn't any major changes to the SS schedule.

I do 5000 miles with Quaker State Synthetic. Ford recommends 200 hrs for severe service (see link below) and for me it happens to work out to 5k miles. My truck has a time counter (engine running) in the information center computer that I can reset after an oil change.

All nissans are
3750 severe
7500 otherwise

have been doing M1 7500 while under warranty.
technically i am severe... but is severe black and white?

I mostly drive less than 10 minutes. sometimes highway.
but I rarely idle, only at red lights. I drive super conservatively until the car warms (though I understand it cannot fully warm in only 5-7 miles).

SO although I accelerate slowly keeping RPM below 3k and only redline occasionally on the highway once fully warm...
am i severe?

Only concern I see is during the winter in PA on the short drives.

Using M1 should make up for slightly severe service. I wouldn't be too worried about it since you're using a synthetic unless of course you're towing

I think you need to apply a little common sense.
I would say either a year or 4K on dino, and a year or 5K on syn.
This should work just fine for any engine that isn't either a heavy fuel diluter or known sludger.

1965 Ford Mustang

Normal Conditions – 6,000 Mi if using Rotunda oil filter and Oil meeting manufacturer oil sequence tests for service M.S. If an oil not meeting service M.S. Is used, adding Rotunda Oil Conditioner will upgrade the oil to meet the oil sequence test requirements.

Severe Conditions – No specific interval is given except for “more frequently than 6000 miles”.
