Hey guys,
I want to use a filter that filters beautifully with PYB for next oil change just get cleaning things going. I heard k&n isnt great at holding in stuff in and wanted to run an short OCI for clearning and trapping. Been using it for 2 OCI so far.

So what should i use?

i was thinking PurOne or ACDelco permenium. what other choices?

Mobil 1 or D+ on the high end.

What makes you think PYB will do a lot of cleaning in a short OCI. I would use PP if you want some additional cleaning. PYB is great oil and will keep it clean but to clean existing crud, go to PP.

But do you know the engine needs cleaning? Have you pulled the valve cover?

Is this your first car?

This is my 2nd car . The previous owner neglected oil changes , my oil has been getting cleaner and cleaner with each change and i really want the last bits to be trapped. the first 3 oil changes , the oil turned dirty black after only couple hundres of miles....

Its one of those " you really dont need it , dont waste money" things but it will make me feel better on inside.

I may need to start driving the car 3000miles/months in near future for a job/school so i want it to be a sexiest as possible before this happens.

The Puro 14477 fits most Toyota I4s.

I guess we're all going to have to presume that a "filter that filters beautifully" has nothing to do with esthetics, right? I haven't run across that kind of description regarding a filter. Efficiency is what you're after, right?

Your engine will never know the difference in short OCIs. You are preparing to waste money by using a premium filter for such a task.

Also, let me comment on this:
" ... and wanted to run an short OCI for clearning and trapping"
Please understand that filters actually become more efficient as they age. As the media loads up, the media becomes "better" at trapping particulate. By sticking to short OCIs, you are actually retarding the very benefit you seek.

I realize that seems unbelievable, but it is true. Do not focus on inputs; instead concentrate on outputs.

It is the tribochemical barrier that is the main contributor to controlling wear. Filters are secondary to this phenomenon. Therefore, using a "better" filter does not result in statisically "better" results, regardless of what hype and rhetoric might have you believe.

Want lower wear? Don't change oil and filters too often. Short OCIs do NOTHING for wear reduction, if the engine is otherwise in decent shape.

I have a 2008 Corolla and have researched filters for it a bit.
If you want high efficiency and capacity (to hold dirt) the premium filters (Mobil 1, RP, Fram Ultra, Napa Platinum etc..) can't be beat. They hold approx. 27 grams of dirt each while regular filters hold less. It would be a waste to run one of these for 3K. I believe the regular Purolator Classic is the best compromise of price/performance for our vehicles ($3.27 each at WM). You can run the slightly longer (oversized) L14477 without a problem.

I have a couple of L14477 from PepBoys black friday deals. Going to use those regularly, and not waste money.

Thanks again,
I find myself getting cheaper toward car maintenance the more I hang out here

Those filters should do a great job for a normal (5 to 6K) OCI.
