Found this on my garage floor, it wasn't there a couple days ago and is concentrated in an area under the one car near the rollup door. I tried sweeping it away and it appears to be stuck to the floor, so I'll need a stiffer broom or a hose.

Had rain ?

looks to me like worms who have escaped from drowning, and ended up dehydrated on the concrete floor.

Yes, it rained a lot yesterday! I was thinking it was some kind of fecal matter from a lizard or something but worms does make sense.

Yep, worms, lots of rain brings them out. I see it every time lots of rain. Sometimes they are still alive, so will put them back in the grass. Don't know if they live or not, but at least I tried. Worms are good for the soil.

And fish bait.

I was really shocked when I learned that just a few years ago. What's scary is the relatively short amount of time they have been here.

While considered good for agriculture, there are concerns about their effect on forest floors: http://greatlakeswormwatch.org/forest/index.html

I can't believe that the US ecosystem survived without worms of some shape or form before the Europeans.

Oz has been similarly invaded by European worms...we had some of the biggest native.

Had to reshearch that myself too. It appears NZ has always had earthworms, but the native ones are forest dwellers, the ones we see in pastures and lawns are introduced. Accidentally introduced, they came in plants or ship ballast.

OP, yes dead and dried up earth worms, they come to the surface during heavy rains, and are difficult to remove when dried out. If I see them on concrete after rain, I throw them back on the grass.

Why is that everything you guys have is worse than what we have? It's like you're in a competition with Texas or something.

That said, I never knew this fact. I just assumed they were always here.
