Hello

I have a 2010 Honda Civic EX- Automatic transmission. What synthtic brand is the best oil for my vehicle? I live in Connecticut. I drive about 90 miles per day- and 90% of that is highway. I drive between 65 to 75mph. The owner's manual calls for 5w-20 motor oil- I am currently using mobil 1 extended performance synthetic motor oil with mobil high efficiency/high capacity oil filters. I'm not sure if this is the best oil for wear protection. I NEED THIS CAR TO LAST FOREVER!! Also- my car has an oil life readout that counts down the oil life left. Is this thing reliable? Or should I keep changing the oil every 5000 miles?

Many Thanks,

Bryan

Whatever your owner's manual says to use. Mobil 1 is a great choice. Stick with that.

I've been asking the same questions on here for the past few years about my 07 EX and have gotten several different responses. The majority will probably say something like above, the engine will outlast the body, or even the transmission, and will probably tell you to use any old oil (especially with your driving conditions) to save you some money. I personally have used M1 5-20 for 3.5 years in mine and it's been amazing. I'm doing 5k OCI's like you and don't regret at all spending the extra money on syn a little sooner than Maintenance Minder tells me to. Honda back-spec'd Civics to 2001 to use 0-20, so that's what I put in last weekend. It absolutely LOVES 0-20. I don't care what anyone says about me not needing it in the South, etc. etc., but it's quieter when starting cold and has much better accelerator response. I'd recommend M1 0-20, especially where you live, but I'd have to also agree with others, and many others, when they say, many top brands will serve you just fine for hundreds of thousands of miles. Good luck, and enjoy it!

I would worry more about the road salt and body rust. Any oil will do just fine and Mobil 1 will definately keep than engine running for the next 20 years.

I got a 2007 Civic EX (5 speed manual) with almost 90K miles and I run Mobil 1 for 10K miles and any brand dino for 5K miles.

No need to run the M1 EP unless you want to keep the oil in their longer, and with the M1 EP + all those hwy miles you can probably double your miles between oil changes.

The oil life monitor is probably set up to do dino oil so you can likely go much further than its indicating.

If your in the 5k mile synthetic group, save your money and just grab the regular 5w-20 Mobil 1, which is plenty tough for those quick highway miles.

Try a UOA at 5k to see how much further you can go on either the regular 5w-20 or the EP.
