What is now considered the holy grail of dino?

I use Chevron Supreme and Castrol and Pennzoil. Depending on what's available.

There will be a reverse lawsuit in the future. You can't call this dino ... It has %5 synthetic in it.

True.. house brand full syn's have come down so much that it's making it harder and harder to justify spending the money for a dino/blend, even for an admitted cheap skate like myself. Nowadays i buy blends only when I can get a rebate on it.. like the $8 for 5qts I got this past summer.

To meet SN+ standards it has to run roughly 50% group three (depending on whether it's 5w20 or 5w30--they're a few percent apart, can't remember which way). Unless it uses Exxon Mobil base stocks which meet spec with Group 2+.

Holy Grail of conventional oils lol... there are so many good ones, and they are all pretty comparable in price and performance. Anything from a big name label will work great... Valvoline, Pennzoil, QS, Mobil 5000, Chevron Supreme/Havoline, etc etc. And yes most name brand conventional oils are actually blended with a bit of synthetic, which means Gp 2/3 blends since Gp 3 is considered synthetic nowadays.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to dino prices come May since GF6 pretty much mirrors D1G2 and dino/dino blends have a hard, if not impossible, time passing D1G2 unless they have a high % of grp3. I only know of a handful of dino blends that carry D1G2 cert and they're not cheap. ($18~20 range for 5qts)..at that price, the decision to go with a full syn becomes a no brainer.

Quality wise, dino these days are probably at least syn blend of the old days if not the full synthetic of the old days. The newer spec means you probably can make dino for much longer. We already lost dino 0w20, and we will lose more of them as 10w30 die off and shelf space replaced with 0w16.

I think it is. Good ol' Arnie....

Castrol dropped the GTX branding for modern grades. It's only 10w30, 10w40, 20w50 now.

If you don/t need 5W winter cold start protection, then 10W30 Chevron Delo 400 SDE CK-4/SN could be the latest and greatest holy grail of a group II base engine oil.

The name Dino, is an attempt to downgrade modern non "synthetic" lubricants.

The holy grail would be Formula Shell 5w30.

I think it can only be found at Home Depot..and i cant seem to find a website for it.

Shell owns Pennzoil.. so it has to be better right?
