I noticed last week that Valvoline MaxLife is now API SM rated. It seemed to be one of the last oils to go API SM.

Is the new SM MaxLife's as good as the SL version?

I have both product data sheets. Tell me the grade(s) you are interested in and later tonight (when I have more time) I will post the cold properties and viscosities. For now, some additives:

Additive: SL ppm, SM ppm (listed on sheet)
Zinc: 1080, 830
Phosphorus: 950, 760
Calcium: 2600, 2540
Moly: not listed, 300
Magnesium: Nil, not listed

MSDS has not changed. Still shows 12-22% PAO.

I think both the SL and SM are good. Apparently the moly makes up for the lower zddp.

Looks like valvoline has taken out the Moly in Maxlife Dino for the new SN/GF-5.

Okay....if it's a blend....how much synthetic oil is in Maxlife Dino/SYn's? Percentage wise?

And what group of syntheitic oil is used in the blend?

How are you guys getting the new SN data sheets? When I go to the Maxlife data sheets, they're still SM.

No more moly in Maxlife? Say it ain't so Joe!

The syn is group III. Here is the composition from the MSDS:

HEAVY PARAFFINIC DISTILLATE >=50- HYDROTREATED HEAVY PARAFFINIC BASE OIL >=20- HEAVY PARAFFINIC DISTILLATE >=15-<20%
