Fram's lawyers probably shut 'King down.

I did not have that vibe as he always answered my questions behind the scenes--and was incredibly fast and diligent at doing so (though he may have been consulting engineers and that is fine by me). The fact that he, representing FRAM, even came onto the board in whatever capacity, speaks volumes about the company itself. While the seriousness of the Purolator tearing issues is subjective and debatable, what is not debatable is the "vapor-ware" attitude of Purolator--where is their rep (in any capacity)? For better or worse, no matter what was slung at him, at least Jay did attempt to answer any and all questions.

I want to throw in there also that Jay never had one thing to say about the Purolator tearing issue, even though it would have made Fram look better. I guess there was enough being said about it by members here, so he didn't chime in for whatever reason. And he was helpful with members here with questions or problems ... something no other filter manufacturer does here.

His last post was on 02/22/15, so he hasn't been gone long really.

Lol, I'm not exactly sure what all happened, or whether there was a question somewhere.

On this escape there is no gauge only an oil light and it seemed to go off just as fast as with the motorcraft and maybe a second faster. I will say screwing this ultra filter on seemed to fit perfectly. So good that i stopped screwing it on and backed it off and put the motorcraft back on to see and feel if it was in my head and the motorcraft was good but not as good as the fram. So far i like it.
Some real science here.

I KNEW IT! He went on vacation since his kronies took over the marketing side of the business for him.

Actually I heard that he is off on workmans comp from a nasty papercut injury sustained while gluing cardboard endcaps to OCODs...

Motoking is vacationing in the Bahamas since he got a big bonus from the huge increase in sales of Ultras due to the Tearolator indecent. jk_636 just bought some FUs too to help out. LoL

That is because he was to busy bashing Wix. He made claims that the bypass on the Wix leaked and that the efficiency was only 80% when Wix claimed it was 95%.

He asked nicely if we could just refer to the orange can by its proper name and not the derogatory vernacular and BITOG couldn't even give him that little concession.

I almost always refer to Fram oil filter by its proper names such as Extra Guard, Tough Guard ..., I rarely ever used OCOD probably once or twice some years ago.

I actually used Extra Guard in LS400 more than once and once in my S2000 and E430.

Haha Ha ha.
The reason I am not on here every day is because we have recently won new business at CARQUEST, Factory Motor Parts and Valvoline. Also just won the business of the entire government owned mining industry in China. I have been traveling non stop every week since September. That is the reason I include my email and cell phone in my signature. You know, so I can be easily reached. Honestly, some day it will no longer be cool to bash FRAM. I though we were there but I guess not.

Motorking, not cool to bash Fram now at all. Those products are better than the old days. Now its cool to bash Purolator's tearing media.

Congrats on the Chinese deal (Newsflash: Chinese government owns stuff over there....hee-hee).

That or he grew tired of constantly reading all of the lame jabs at FRAM and decided he had something better to do with his time.

My guess is this:
50% what you state
50% that when truly challenged with detailed, specific questions he struggled to give competent answers at times.

IMO he's good at this job. His job is to promote some knowledge flow while encouraging sales. He's a sales-tech; he's not an engineer in a manner that I can discern. I harbor no ill-will; he does his job well. Those that don't like him simply don't understand what his job is.

I, myself, have had to rethink my position on Fram, especially the OCOD. I used it exclusively when I was younger. Then I became fearful of the "cardboard" caps. Now, I understand that it's all a means to an end. Because I run longer OCIs, my new "go to" filter is the TG for $6 at W/M. Very hard to beat that for the long runs I do.

Why Jay has left the building is anyone's guess. I would prefer to think he's just tired of this, as opposed to being sickly or some other malady. Never wish that on anyone.

Didn't leave the building, my email and cell number are all over this forum, I couldn't be easier to reach, just don't have the time to be here every day. I get 50 phone calls and over 100 emails per day in addition to having to travel he world conducting technical presentations on our products. We have won over 100 million dollars in new business in the last 6 months so yes, been waaaaaay busy.
That said I challenge this statement
50% that when truly challenged with detailed, specific questions he struggled to give competent answers at times. Would love an example where I didn't answer a question with facts. I have immediate access to the two most experienced chief engineers in the filter industry and outside of disclosing propietary information, I think I have always answered as quickly as possible.

dnewton3 does that same psychological crud on anybody who doesn't agree with him. Ignore like the rest of us do.

hahahahaha
You do know that we make Royal Purple oil filters right? And Mopars new "Magenti ' Marelli" brand filters as well. Get over the paper/cardboard/felt end caps thing. FRAM employees almost 4000 Americans making the majority of its filter here in the USA, and yet somehow some people still believe it makes them cool trash our company. Honda uses fiber caps, Subaru uses them, GM uses Synthetic fiber end caps, Bentley, Mann and Hummel, Porsche (synthetic fiber), Nissan (filtec) and yet you somehow think there is still something wrong, guess your smarter than all the engine designers at all those companies. Worn out dude

I didn't know that, but I guess I wouldn't since I have never considered buying one anyway due to its high price and lack of availability in the local stores.

That's what I figured too ... he's been gone from BITOG for periods of time before and then shows back up after some time. I always just figured that he is really busy with his career and life in general, which he basically confirmed when he submitted his post in this thread. And like he said, he includes his email and phone number in his posts. I have emailed some questions to him a few times myself, and each time he responded quickly with answers.

I never even heard anything back from Purolator. I sent an email, they sent me a filter recovery kit, I got another email that they received my filter and couldn't test it because it had been cut open. They were going to forward it to test/QA department. I have never heard anything back. And that was a long time ago!

Last I checked, Royal Purple was made by champion labs.

If Fram actually does make them, well then Im glad they finally got something right! And they do use metal end caps right? Just checking. Seems like flagship filters always use metal endcaps and lower tier filters typically use cardboard. I wonder why that is.

Have fun in china. The OCOD will really catch on there. That is, until the Chinese govt. commandeers your factory and makes rip off filters. Just like they did to Audi, BMW, etc.

Good luck Motorking! Its good to have you back.
