What fuel stabilizer is best for OPE & generators?

Did you use the recommended strength or over dosed it? I am still looking for a "magic elixir" to fix my no-slow-idle snow blower. I don't have any incentive to wrench it as it does not need the slow-idle for its operation.

I've used both, not together of course, and I can't tell a difference. I do mix them overstrength at about double the recommended concentration.

I use straight Sta-Bil in all my OPE year round. Can't find any pure gas... everything around here has 10% ethanol. Does just fine. I usually drain my tanks for the off season but have occasionally left them full and seems to do just fine. Last carb I had apart was spotless FWIW.

After getting deposits in a finicky Tecumseh while using Sta-bil I switched to Amsoil AST. It's been working great in everything for years now. I put stabilizer in every can of OPE fuel I buy on the day I buy it since my usage comes in bursts and the fuel/machines often sit unused for periods at unpredictable times.

IIRC Stabil is EDTA, an antioxidant. I remember reading about it in The Life Extension Handbook written in the 80's by Durk Pearson. The military used it for vehicle's in hot climates because of rapid fuel deterioration. Too bad I tossed it along with the dilution ratio's.

stabalizer is expensive, i just use it in my fuel upon the last usage of the piece before i store it

Actually I think Sta-Bil is BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene)... EDTA (Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid) is probably useful as an antioxidant, but is poorly soluble in organic solvents such as gasoline.

I use the Blue Marine version of Sta-Bil. It has extra ethanol protection in it. It costs a bit more than the red Sta-Bil, but less than a fouled up fuel system would cost to repair.
