A lot of folks think the oil filter in general is more important or say to speak since there are so many opinions on the different quality of filters.

Would the airfilter be the better choice first than the oil filter as regards to your application.

Say an engine had no oil filter...Than the air filter would be the most important filter than the oil filter in your application.

Air! Unless of course you don't mind high silicon levels in your intake and oil systems!

Of course, I never (as you) leave home without either of them.

An air filter has a more direct effect on your engine. I don't think that the majority of people here think the oil filter is more important. The reason for more discussion is that air filter prices, features and construction differ much more then oil filters.

Funny musing: Most people say the Air filter is more important (and it is important no doubt); but it is interesting to note the Air filter section of BITOG only has 372 Topics, when the oil filter section has 2,326

I think they're both equally important, to a point. Perhaps if you live in a dusty setting, the air would be 'more' important.

The air filter has much more work to do that the oil filter. By nature it is exposed to highly contaminated air in high volumes. Even "clear" air is full of dust, pollen, bugs and the like.

I suspect that it would make more sense for us to obsess over air filters instead of oil filters!

In the evolution of cars, everthing had air filters long before everything had oil filters. Remember that the 55 Chevy V8 had no oil filter unless you ordered it with the optional partial flow oil filter.

As small and insignificant as many oil filters are today (example: Honda), I kind of think that the auto engineers still don't see much value in oil filters.

Do they know something that we don't or are they just driven for spending as little as possible?
