What does a stock Coyote 5.0 Mustang sound like?

I've never heard a Coyote Mustang on the road with a stock exhaust. All the Coyote Mustangs running around town have no muffler.

The sound of them without their muffler is horrid. How do they sound with the stock exhaust?

The 5.0 sounds decent.

I’ve never liked the sound of other Ford engines though. Not sure what it is about them, they sound like they have no compression.

What does active exhaust mean? Is that something other than factory stock?

Usually flaps and valves which can divert the exhaust gasses through various silencers or bypass pipes. These are stock on a lot of Mustangs I believe.

It means that when being driven normally, they're quiet. But if you put your foot down or select a specific mode then things can be louder.

The exhaust note of a stock 1986 Mustang GT 5.0 was perfect. I'm talking pure music to my ears. I would never need a sound system other than the factory stock Ford radio in that car. I don't know what a stock Coyote Mustang sounds like, but my gut feeling tells me it's no where near as nice as the original Mustang GT from back in the day. By the way, a brand new Mustang GT back in 1986 was about $14,500.

Don't remember any of them being stock back in the day, first thing I remember every Mustang owner doing around my area was cutting off the cats and putting on the cheapest hi-flow mufflers they could find. Which resulted in a terrible sounding exhaust to say the least. Not that most of the Camaro guys I knew did any better. I was one of the few that actually put real long tube headers on my 94 Z28 with an electric cut out for when I wanted really loud. The stock muffler I left on so it would be nice and quiet if a cop happened to be around.

Most youtube videos of new car test drives have an exhaust sound clip. I find the new Coyote DOHC lumpy and obnoxious.

move video to 5min 35sec to hear exhaust. This has the dual mode exhaust. So quiet and loud. Not supposed to use trackmode/loud on the street. Tell that to the kids. How can kids afford 50 g cars?

They sound the same, just minus 3/4 of the noise.

Personally I like the sound of the coyote 5.0. I also love the sound of an LS.

In 87 and 88 a lot of dealers in Toronto were stocking up on 5.0 LX coupes without any options on them and they were selling them for $12,000! I’m not sure what that was in US dollars at that time but $12,000 Canadian right now would be $8,767 US! There were so many of those running around the streets here! In the end of 1991 I ended up with a used 87 GT for only $5,600! It even had a brand new engine in it, along with the wheels from a 91.

Not a mustang but my 2011 F150 5.0 is just perfect for a daily driver. Nice and quite when putsing around with a great growl when you mash it. Love the sound of the 5.0L

The MSRP of a GT these days is $46,560. Considering the incredible performance, safety, technology, and comfort improvements, it’s not much of a difference.

$15,800 in 1986 dollars.
And somehow 14 grand was affordable and 46 is ... ... ... not freaking worth it.

I owned two new GT's and the Mercury Capri equivalent in the 80's trying to find a Ford that wasn't terribly defective. I ended up calling them Escorts with a V8. My girlfriend at the time passed me on the highway with a little brown VW dasher. She laughed at me and said "it makes a lot of noise but doesn't go very fast".

Garbage Fairmont unitbody with a way detuned 302 making one-half HP per cube.

With some effort and $$$ and sweat they can be made to run. Typically in a straight line.

The much-derided Mustang II King Cobra was the handler of the bunch. Had one with a breathed on 302 and a 4 speed. Raised some eyebrows. They still sell that well designed mustang II front suspension "clip" as an old Hot rod upgrade.
