What do you think about forced full service gas?

Gas pump attendants. Make work! Oregon is right above California and since the mas migration of Californians to Oregon . Oregon has almost reached the level of California. The left coast so to say. Most Californians move away from California to escape what they have created yet want to turn their new domicile into a California.

I haven't noticed any damage from attendant fueling in Oregon. I also don't wait if they are busy. I swipe my card and fill up.
I'm guessing it is Oregon's way of putting felons to work.

I would never let somebody else gas up my Buick; that's my take on it.

Now can somebody please remind me the purpose of the law ?

Thinly-veiled welfare for otherwise-unemployable stoned high school dropouts. I flatly refuse to buy gas for a car in Jersey for this reason.

Note: it is legal in Jersey (and I think Oregon) for motorcyclists to pump their own gas!

Self serve is legal for diesel fuel.

As opposed to the brilliant residents of FL?
I will admit the intelligence of FL has been greatly reduced by the mass migration of snow birds over the decades. Actual Floridians can not only pump gas but rebuild the engine.

This thread is just too darn funny. OMG! I have to let someone touch my car and put the gas in? The unmitigated HORROR!

Reminds me of the way people talk about letting a shop do OC's here. Just way over the top.

Like every aspect of your life there are good and bad people you run into that will serve you in some capacity. The way people talk here though you would think there isn't a competent mechanic to do OC's or a fuel attendant to pump gas in the entire country. They all are incompetent and will damage your vehicle.

Just as I have no problem letting someone change my oil I have no problem letting someone pump gas for me. Sure I could run into the rare incompetent but the overwhelming vast majority of these folks will do the job correctly and not hurt the vehicle. People here are just paranoid. If your vehicle is damaged the shop/station has to pay to fix it.

I go through NJ every time I go to VA on vacation. I actually plan a refueling stop there as the gas is so much cheaper( well it was anyway before they upped the gas tax recently ). Never had an attendant damage the vehicle. Rude or disinterested? Yes. Damage the vehicle? No. We have a FS Sunoco here in town and I get most of my fuel there because the guys do a good job and it is only 5 cents more p/gallon. With my MS getting in and out of the car actually causes me physical pain so I don't mind paying an extra 50 cents to a dollar for a FS fill up.

Now, with al of that said, I actually do not agree with any law making it mandatory that all stations be FS. If people want to fill the vehicle themselves they should be able to. My comments are more about the people overdoing it, as they do when talking about paying for OC's, with all the drama and doom and gloom. I feel like I need hip boots and a shovel after reading this thread.

Same thing here in NH with people from MA/CT/NY fleeing those states. They came here to get away from over regulation and oppressive taxes only to vote the same way and ruin NH too.

A lot of negativity on this snarky board... Jeeze guys.

Bag on these folks who have a job pumping gas- but I guarantee you'd be the first ones [censored] and screaming at what a waste of air they are if they lived on the public dime! Lighten up you bunch of Francis-es! At least they're working? For all you know, some of them are putting themselves through college or this is their second or third job to avoid being on welfare, or to have some extra spending money.

Take this guy:

And yes, I realize not all are in the types of situations I mentioned- but for those who are making assumptions... you know what they say.

You're right. We went through Oregon while on vacation this summer and there were plenty who did take pride in their work. It was readily apparent. There were only a handful of employees with an attitude- and this ran the gambit of mom'n pop style stations to major chains.

Unless it's it few cents, really it's better not to. Depending of the design, the gas can bubble up and enter the charcoal canister, which can ruin it and lead to costly repair. In my younger days I used to, for the same reasons you do, but I learned the hard way and have now learned to apply my OCD to other things.

I agree - son had one in (one of these states) start giving him stuff about Texas plates - you must be certain party garbage. This guy was big - got in his face - started yelling - then pushed - then got his tail whipped (Son is Brazilian MA trained) ... Son was detained by PD until they watched video. Side of car bashed during scuffle. This guy has not paid a dime ...
I'll never go there again ...

You would expect less from this crowd?

"No one touches my car!" LOL.

Found the 2 socialists who think everyone else's private property they personally paid for belongs to everyone.

Or they just have no respect for anything perhaps.

I hope you're not referring to my reply?

He probably was but don't worry about it since just about all his posts are like that. Plus he's only 16 or somewhere close to that. His brain isn't even fully developed. A few more years till that will happen.

I have a locking cap on my pickup. By the time I got out to unlock it, the attendant had removed it and was ready to pump fuel. He didn't need a key. Had him show me

You have, obviously, never owned a car where a tank of the wrong gas could ruin the engine. I have! (I also watched a friend be ten seconds from a tank of diesel fuel in his motorhome.)

Before the oil companies realized the consumers were idiots all gas sales were full service. the windows wash the tires checked and the oil level checked.

I was reading the other day that they predicted 75% of the gas stations would be gone in 10-15 years. Most around me are more convenience/liquor stores anyway.

I go through one small Illinois town right off the interstate that has 6 stations with in a mile with two Mobil and two BPs in that mile.

Nope, Leo and HEMI. Hard for them to learn to act like responsible adults who actually care about their belongings when they live on mommy and daddy's dime.

When I clicked on this thread, I was expecting to see discussion about the feasibility of such an idea, only to find out that it's a real thing.

If only you knew how annoying it actually is when it happens to you in real life
