Gas pump attendants. Make work! Oregon is right above California and since the mas migration of Californians to Oregon . Oregon has almost reached the level of California. The left coast so to say. Most Californians move away from California to escape what they have created yet want to turn their new domicile into a California.

Like every aspect of your life there are good and bad people you run into that will serve you in some capacity. The way people talk here though you would think there isn't a competent mechanic to do OC's or a fuel attendant to pump gas in the entire country. They all are incompetent and will damage your vehicle.
Just as I have no problem letting someone change my oil I have no problem letting someone pump gas for me. Sure I could run into the rare incompetent but the overwhelming vast majority of these folks will do the job correctly and not hurt the vehicle. People here are just paranoid. If your vehicle is damaged the shop/station has to pay to fix it.
I go through NJ every time I go to VA on vacation. I actually plan a refueling stop there as the gas is so much cheaper( well it was anyway before they upped the gas tax recently ). Never had an attendant damage the vehicle. Rude or disinterested? Yes. Damage the vehicle? No. We have a FS Sunoco here in town and I get most of my fuel there because the guys do a good job and it is only 5 cents more p/gallon. With my MS getting in and out of the car actually causes me physical pain so I don't mind paying an extra 50 cents to a dollar for a FS fill up.
Now, with al of that said, I actually do not agree with any law making it mandatory that all stations be FS. If people want to fill the vehicle themselves they should be able to. My comments are more about the people overdoing it, as they do when talking about paying for OC's, with all the drama and doom and gloom. I feel like I need hip boots and a shovel after reading this thread.

You're right. We went through Oregon while on vacation this summer and there were plenty who did take pride in their work. It was readily apparent. There were only a handful of employees with an attitude- and this ran the gambit of mom'n pop style stations to major chains.

I agree - son had one in (one of these states) start giving him stuff about Texas plates - you must be certain party garbage. This guy was big - got in his face - started yelling - then pushed - then got his tail whipped (Son is Brazilian MA trained) ... Son was detained by PD until they watched video. Side of car bashed during scuffle. This guy has not paid a dime ...

You have, obviously, never owned a car where a tank of the wrong gas could ruin the engine. I have! (I also watched a friend be ten seconds from a tank of diesel fuel in his motorhome.)

I was reading the other day that they predicted 75% of the gas stations would be gone in 10-15 years. Most around me are more convenience/liquor stores anyway.
I go through one small Illinois town right off the interstate that has 6 stations with in a mile with two Mobil and two BPs in that mile.
