when you say full saps oil what do you mean?

X-cess is BMW LL-01 MB 229.5

Low saps version is X-clean...

Since you are american... and you have sulphur in gasoline... It is better for your car to use full saps oil...

Motul is almost always good stuff

Just depends on price ...

Not a bad price at all! Plus, there's a warehouse deal on a jug for $26.

That said, it may be a bit too heavy for your car, especially while still under warranty. But you can always buy it now and use it later.

I ran that in my 1.8T Passat years ago and never had issues at 5k mile intervals. In my 2013 VW GLI, I'm running Motul 8100 X-Clean 5w30 since it's a lower SAPs oil (I have also run the 5w40 version) and the car never needs top off between OCIs. Honestly I think so many oils are so equal it's hard to say how good one particular oil may be. This is a good price on that oil, but for the specs I'd probably buy Castrol Edge 0w40 or Mobil 1 0w40, depending on price and availability.

Mostly yes. But the new BMW turbo petrol engines require 0w-20. So Maybe that Will change.

That is due to EU wants to lower Co2 footprint... It has nothing to do with performances...

I would leave that SAE20 hype for hybrid auxiliary vehicles

I read on here that there isn't much Sulphur in US fuels anymore, though there are some States with stricter requirements than others.

It's a myth some Eurotards won't let go of...

Most refiners don't even come close to the maximum cap and with significantly reduce the content next year...

Sulpher Content of US fuels

In any case, the body of evidence via UOA's here shows it has little impact overall on OCI's...

Never used it or seen it for sale anywhere, but heard it's highly regarded among European car guys, even higher than Castrol in many cases. Is it similar to Redline and Amsoil where you have to order it online or find a dealer to buy it? If so, I'd skip the hassle of using it myself, I'm all about being able to walk into any parts store and buy the oil I need without having to wait for it to ship to my door.

I'm guessing it's widely available in Europe as they're a large French oil company IIRC. Here it seems to be available at performance motor sports shops I think...

This particular product is "nothing special" in comparison with other acea a4/b4 5w40 brand name synthetics (shell, castrol, elf, ...)

You are tripping here only on Motul name...and on fact that they produce ester based lubricants too
