Hey everyone, I was hoping someone could help shed some light on something ive been trying to figure out. I've tried searching on here and haven't really come up with anything. There seems to be two different part numbers for the same oil. Im talking about Motul 8100 X-cess Gen 2 5w-40. I have encountered a 102870 part number and also a 109776 part number as well for the same oil. As far as I can tell, they are both the same oil and in the same 5L jug. Even the ratings seem the same. The only difference I can seem to find is price and or possibly description. When going on the motul website, it seems like I can only find the 109776 number. Is it possible that the 102870 is just an older or early production number for the gen 2 oil? Maybe the 109776 is the superseded number? I have seen somewhere else that 102870 can be cross referenced with 109776 but nothing in terms of if there is a difference between the oils themselves. It also seems like the 109776 is more available online compared to the other. I have provided links below just to give an idea as to what I am talking about. And yes, both oils are in fact Gen 2. The 109776 can be found on other websites as Gen 2 oil. Has anyone come across this part number discrepancy? Ive been using the 102870 oil in my subaru sti for years and its been fine.

Don't trust oil sites info.
That's strange because on that website above, 102870 is gen 2 oil. I've been ordering the 102870 part number for a couple of years now and have gotten Gen 2 oil every time .

Check your gen2 bottle, p/n should be there.
You know now that you mention that, I justed checked my last remaining bottle in the motul box. This is from my order last year when I ordered the 102870 . The part number on the bottle is a 110905. So after google searching I have found a couple of different things. The website Ive been ordering from, the 110905 can be interchanged with 109776 and also 102870. This is very strange, why do they all have different part numbers for the same thing. They also dont have any specifics as to why they are different numbers.

110905 is good for gen2, it superseed 10977x.
10287x is gen1, you should NOT see it on gen2 bottle.

What is your concern with the two?
My concern with the two was if there was an actual different in the oil between the 2 part numbers.

I see thanks for clearing that up. I wish these places would be more accurate with their part numbers. I still wonder why they are selling 102870 for like $38 and the 109776 for like $53. I guess should ask them that and see what they come up with.

About price 38$ vs $53 = old stock get out easily (expensive both).
P/N adviced as compatile (false) = customer confused and old stock get out again or bad website maintance - inexpert.

I guess for me if it still carries the required or desired approval I am not too concerned. Blenders change formulations all the time, either within interchange allowances or by obtaining the same license or approval.

Just wanted to add some clarity to this. I emailed eeuroparts about the part numbers listed for the Gen 2 oil. The response I got back from them was that both 110905 and 109776 are both superseded the 102870 number. All the numbers were good for that gen 2 oil given their respective time.

So we're good. Ceecbtg was correct in his responses. Thanks all that responded.
