Do you go ask someone else if your Car or Truck seems LOUD and hope they say NO so you can go about calling yourself crazy, while your Oil is LOUD and the engine gets LOUDER and LOUDER? And maybe even ask BITOG if your Oil is LOUD?

Or do you CHANGE THE OIL?

Hmm, i know which one I would do.

Some folks report that a given oil makes their engine noisier.
Often, it is really a change in filter that causes start-up noise.
If a given oil seems to make your engine sound less pleasant, run it for some reasonable mileage (get your money out of it), and never run it again. As long as the viscocity grade is allowable for the engine, it won't do any harm.
Easy!

Louder when/how? At start up or when fully warmed up? If it is at cold start I would probably change the filter 1st suspecting a bad ADBV. If that did not solve it then I would change the oil. If it is louder at normal operating temps I would try changing the oil itself. Been there and done that in all of those situations.

I am one who definitelly notices differences in how my engines respond to different oils. I do notice they run smoother and/or quieter on different brands. People can say it is all in my head if they choose but I disagree. You can hear( louder or quieter noise level ) and sometimes even feel a difference( smoother or rougher running ). Doesn't mean I am talking the difference between a super charged or turbo'd engine and one that is not. Not that kind of BIG difference but a noticeable one none the less.

I have never had that happen to me since I was 16 and I drove a lot of rides,,,tell u what,,,Im not gonna comment on this situation,,but someone will, stand by for something........

I had a 2008 Chevy Equinox with the 3.4L V6. The 1st oil change to get rid of the FF( around 2500 as I recall )I did my usual Castrol GTX. I used a Napa ProSelect filter.

At cold start I had a lot of valve train clatter. Figured bad ADBV so swapped the filter to the other ProSelect I had( 2 for 1 deal ). Same issue. Swapped to an AC and back to original noise level at cold start. Used a Purolator once and that was fine. I didn't have it long but used AC at the end.

With the GTX at normal temps it did make the engine louder overall. Just a louder set of engine noises. It was definitely louder than on the FF oil. was it to problem levels or trouble brewing sounding noises? No, but the engine running was definitely louder. The engine almost felt slightly sluggish and rougher too which is the only way I can explain it? I am a GTX fan so it isn't like I am trying to bash it. I would prefer to only say good things.

I swapped over to QS HP synthetic at 5K and the engnine was much smoother and quieter than it was even on the FF.

This is just one example. I have had other experiences with oils and filters effecting the loudness and smoothness of engines.
