What do you buy for $50k?

Classic air cooled 911 (993 and before, no water) E39 M5 sedan, E46 M3. All cars that will appreciate with time, given that you take care of them. Id say go with the M3 or M5, for 25-30k youll find a really really nice example, and keep 10 on the side for repairs, and 10 for the college fund.

Lies! Look at the graph for the last 50 years! Thr long term historically is always up. Dont get caught up in the recessions, ride it out over the long term.

Like I said, no 4 cyl engines, and the V6 Giulia is way more than 50K. But yeah, nice car for sure.

For a new vehicle purchase what about a Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 ? As far as pre-owned; I would personally be looking at a 2011-2014 Lexus IF-F or, a used GS450h.

No consideration for a Mercedes C43 AMG Sedan?

My boss recently purchased a top of the line Subaru Outback with the 6 cylinder. I've driven it a few times, surprisingly, I liked it. Furthermore, it was larger than I expected.

I am also in the market for a daily driver. Not sure if I'm going cheap and reliable, like a $17K altima SR, or nice, like another Jag. I'm kind of hard on cars and tend to carry tools all over the place.

Edit: I rent cars every week, and try to get something different each time. Cars I like include the Infiniti's and the larger Chrysler products with the V8. I also like driving the newer Jag XF with the superb V6.

I doubt I'll ever get over it, as I'm going on 62. I live by the philosophy of fellow Kentuckian David E. Davis Jr.: "No Boring Cars!"

Yep. At this point, I just need a car because my current one has reached a point where it doesn't make sense to pump money into it. I might still keep it as a winter beater - I haven't decided yet. But since I am new car shopping, I might as well find something that's not only practical but also a bit fun.

After complaining about car costs (the $67k F-150 and $60k tahoe type vehicles are the most offensive, IMO), and depreciation and whatnot...

My choice is:

Wait a year then pick up an AMG E63 wagon.

2014s are starting to get in range A year and I think theyll lose $15k or so and be there. Before 14 I dont like the headlight design as much.

For some reason the E63 AMG wagons tend to hold onto their value better than the regular sedans.

There's also the 2014 E550, last year for the E550. There's also the 2014 S550, but that's probably a little out of your price range for used unless it has high mileage. At least with MB, their CPO warranty can be as long as 3 years with unlimited miles. There's also older E63's, but get 2012+ as the 2007-2011 ones had bad head bolts. I always liked the E550's, good mix of power and options, but the airmatic and worse gas mileage have always put me off. Too much traffic around here to go fast and the E350 is fine for me.

Oh yeah, if that's an E63 in the pic, that looks like it has the titanium rims. Just image how much they'd cost if you dented or cracked one. They list for well over 1k each.

+1 on the Stinger.

Only so I can live vicariously through you.

JHZR2, that looks suspiciously similar to my recommendation

There's just something about a wicked twin turbo v8, AWD, and clad in a sexy wagon body that pegs my boost gauge. Smoking most all other sportscars in a stoplight drag is just icing on the cake!
