What are you working on today?

Today was really busy at work. Done several things. 4 tire balance and alignment on RAV4. Tire change on a brand new Corolla customer wanted different tires on it in order for them to agree to buying it so did that. Alignment on a Tundra with an oil change and rotate. Lug nuts were extremely swollen but customer declined them as 20 of them costed $370 because they were $18 something a piece. Oil change and tire rotation and brake inspection on a 2001 Mustang. I hate working on Ford lol. Tried to sell rear brakes but they declined them. Then have a Sienna in my bay for Monday. It was towed in because the radiator is leaking and it’s over heating. We don’t have a radiator in stock but it was ordered. And done 4 rotors and pads all around on a 2019 Highlander too. Also installed a new tire on a Corolla too because it had a non patchable nail in it. One of the managers keeps telling me I need to be faster but the guy who is in the bay next to me stood up for me and told him to not worry about it because he isn’t in charge of service anyway. I beat book time on everything pretty much so I don’t know what his problem was. Then my manager got on to him as well and told him to mind his own business and not worry about someone he wasn’t in charge of. So I appreciate that from my manager. One thing I can’t stand is to be rushed.

Sadly when you have dealerships trying to sell inferior 2-piece lugnuts at $18 ea you wind up with slang terms like stealership.

And that was before tax! Haha. I would have politely declined as well. I had to try 5 different impact guns to even get 4 of them to budge because a tire shop had way over tightened them. Also had to use 22.5 socket on some then a 23 on the rest.

I never could find a cam sprocket wrench to fit the LH on a late EJ25...at least not well. I drilled and tapped a couple holes in a Company 23 today. Haven't tried it yet -- this may not help or work.

Cleaning up and hauling away the huge tree branch I cut down yesterday. Going to 90F today and staying there for highs for the week. Better get busy.

Forte Koup - 0
Massive tree in driveway - 1

a pretty intense story short, while parked in driveway, a wicked storm cell appeared with substantial winds.. you know the rest but the Koup was done for immediately..

I will probably make a dedicated 2.4L manual to automatic 2.4L swap thread but the heart of the koup is in the wagon, running driving and NO check engine light.

More to come.

Friday morning I finished pulling the 4L60 out of the 97 Suburban, and put it up in the inventory shed.

Neighbors kids 2010 Civic (110k) came in for some maintenance
STOP USING WORM DRIVE CLAMPS 🤬
And cutting the hoses too short 🙄

In went new OE Honda hoses + filler neck + constant tension clamps
The filler neck (w/cap) is $16
Just the rad cap alone is $20 🤷‍♂️
Hose flushed the block and rad, in went some Zerex Asian Blue

Aisin (reboxed Tama) thermostat warms up much faster
Now the fan cycles at around ~212°
Hopefully that means better fuel economy and better heat in the upcoming winter
It had a P0420, and inspection is due in December
Hope the EPA isn't watching 🫣
Took it for a drive cycle, the catalyst monitor cleared 👍
1000000505.webp

The key was broken, as most Honda's of this style are
The Autel KM100 was utilized
1000000516.webp

Turns out my Autel scan tool let's you individually reset maintenance minder items
1000000525.webp

Plugs were mismatched, one coil had a broken connector, and one coil nut was mismatched
All corrected with Denso parts
1000000509.webp

In with a matching set of new Denso plugs
1000000512.jpg

And an air filter
1000000526.jpg

And a cabin filter
1000000518.jpg

Brake pedal pad was worn
1000000510.jpg

And the prop rod clips on these Honda's always shatter
Oh, and I found out why the low beam performance was poor 🤨
1000000517.jpg

...where do people get the audacity 🧐
So I cut down some 9012 bulbs for a cheap and cheerful upgrade

Next week it'll be back for a cluster resolder so the fuel gauge is accurate, and they sent me the wrong wiper blades 🙄

Looking a little more orderly under here now 👌

Still putting this stupid EJ25 back together. I was determined to make sense of the two metal clamps on this lower portion of the plenum. I finally figured out they're Clik-R clamps and finally had a legit reason to use my Astro tool for these clamps.

I'm sure this info is out there on the interwebs.....but I stumbled and bumbled there on my own. Project completion slated for November 2035 at my pace. The yellow school bus takes you to school! [heavy sigh]

Things have finally dried out at the ranch after a very wet spring and summer. Spent all day yesterday trimming limbs and foliage around the ranch house. The previously cleared brush pile is building up again. Looking forward to being a firebug in the winter time. Finally got permanent plates for my Ram. Filled a 55 gallon drum with diesel at $2.82. If the price holds or continues to drop this weekend will fill up a few more barrels for tractor activities for the next year.

Amazing! It would take me four hours to remove the intake manifold and one belt driven accy. Add an hour just for the p/s pump!
