What are you working on today?

1993 Volvo 240 wagon

I insulated the AC line from the orifice tube to the firewall including the accumulator.

I noticed @clinebarger did this on his shop truck. I had never seen this before.

The results speak for themselves.

Did brakes, wheel bearings, and a bunch of welding on a tri axle belly dump trailer today.
Then my daughters and I went to the public pool, and out for dinner before heading home.

Work wasn’t really busy at all thankfully. I’m just ready for vacation lol. Then when I got home rotated tires on moms car. I get lazy and don’t rotate our tires much. Since we are going to Pittsburgh I figured I’d go ahead. It’s still 3,000 away from needing an oil change. We don’t drive it much and she doesn’t work summers so it takes forever to go 5,000 miles. Probably will try to change it when we get back because I know I’ll get bored since we aren’t doing anything else besides going to Pittsburgh over the weekend and Monday.

Ashamed to say it took me over four hours just to pull this radiator from a '14 KL Cherokee.

Then again I'm notoriously slow and was taking my time, no sense of urgency at all.

So far the replacement Nissens has not impressed me as it came without one lower locating peg. I can swap over an OEM peg but it doesn't "click" in like it should due to a variation in the mold.

Also, if anyone reading this has a ballpark fair labor time for rad R&R on a KL I'd love to hear it -- I can't charge the customer for my bumbling incompetence. View attachment 166811View attachment 166812
I'm also a slow worker, so I base my prices on the difficulty of the job. If I just have to take a wheel off and undo a few easy bolts it will cost wayy less than if I have to find all my extensions to reach the top bell housing bolts.

ISX Cummins EGR cooler. Piping hot. Always fun.
I had an ISX in a W900. Best engine I ever had. Also, had a Caterpillar in another truck and in spite of the 10 years at same dealer master tech affirming it the best maintained engine he'd ever seen Caterpillar refused to honor their extended warranty. Caterpillar = deceit and untrustworthiness. Never Caterpillar. Stick with Cummins and ISX. Good quality and good citizenship.

Many of us never rotate tires especially on a 2wd.

Still getting acclimated with our house move. not active when we looked at it before purchase, the crawlspace has become a soupy, wet, soft, steamy, cold, drippy place. Water dripping below all of the AC ducts, wet spots on the wood. I added a fan and started logging humidity numbers and saw zero difference between fan and no fan.

we’re in a bit of a valley and the outside air has been humid. Crawlspace humidity has been constantly above 90%.

I blocked every vent last night with styrofoam. Then hung a dehumidifier. It immediately started producing water. The humidity is down around 10% today after about 24 hours. Still need to get it further.

I realize by sealing all the vents, I get control of the atmosphere but then radon is a thing here. I’ll admit it, called a pro to come see it.

bitog/oil? My truck is filthy, front and back, from all the materials and debris it’s been carrying (“filthy” being relative, I know. It’s probably clean to some). Wants 5/30, gets 10/30, currently M1.

note— the humidity graph was the first hour, and the spike was me going back down to adjust it.

This morning I helped one of the truck shop guys replace the shifter cable on his 2010 Kia Forte Koup. This afternoon I pulled the engine out of a 1978 Chevy C10. The truck is destined for an LS, the smoky 350 will either be salvaged for parts or will eventually be rebuilt.

Rotating tires on the W8 Passat. Cleaned rotor/hub/wheel mating surfaces with a wire wheel. About 15K on these Nitto Neogens and wearing well for a budget low treadwear rated tire. About 5/32" so should get a few more years/20-25K....not bad for $500.

If you ever wanted to see the weird W8 here you go. Larger weird Audi 2 piston/4 pad front brakes. Also note the factory 2-piece by BBS "Madra" wheels. It's a beast!
