What are you working on today?

So I developed an exhaust leak back in March. Turns out the crack goes all the way around the log. Pretty much in half now. I became apparent that the top bolts were not going to come out without a fight. Rather than deal with broken bolts I finally decided to remove the cylinder head and exhaust manifold as one piece. Then I decided since it would be off I should replace the 55 year old valve seals with 153,000 miles. Then I decided I should remove the intake because there was an obvious oil leak down the back. That meant take off the other head where that exhaust manifold had a small crack where the flapper was for running heat up to the carb. I would take the intake down to the shop to be hot tanked and have the pan removed, cleaned out of the heavy thick coke, and then replace with screws. Now I am wondering with the heads coming off, so I can see the valve seats, that maybe I should have the heads rebuilt. I didn't intend to rebuild the entire engine for awhile. Have another engine with more priority and easier to do than this one where there is a waiting list now____________________________________________________________.

On my 2019 L5P I replaced glow plug #3, serpentine belt, idler pulleys, and tensioner as well as replaced/repinned the TMAP sensor connector since I broke the locking tab and I am super anal.

I also flushed the hydroboost, I did this a few months ago with redline power steering fluid but it completely changed my steering feel, it made the steering feel super loose with no resistance, I don't think the lower viscosity redline plays nice with the digital steering assist on the 17 and up duramaxes so I replaced the redline with GM/AC Delco fluid and it is much better now.

Also replaced NOx sensors 1 and 2 on my buddies 2017 L5P

I hate this car.. I can't convince my wife to get rid of it. I might have to get rid of both. Repairs are never are one and done. Started shooting coolant out of the reservoir. Thinking the thermostat was sticking. Looks might be the factory at 172k, thought I replaced it with the head . Replaced the thermostat and the housing started leaking. After fussing with it for two hours think I got to stop dripping. Finish putting it back together tomorrow and test it. Couldn't repeat the issue though yet.

I never knew the CVH was fitted to a MK1 Focus! I instantly recognised the engine bay but had a "***" moment looking at the engine.

In Europe we either had a Zetec, 'Sigma' or a 1.8 Turbodiesel.

Don't know why they stuck with this engine for so long. It's a hold over from the 2nd gen Escort at least and it had valve seat issues back then. The Zetec was better but had it's own issues. The Duratec in 04(?) and beyond was the way to go and probably the best Focus ever made.

We are purging 20+ years of scrap at work. Tomorrow will be the fourth roll off bin and 3rd semi trailer load. I am regrading gravel lots where this crap was piled and had a major oops tonight. Busted the front door out of the rental bobcat we have. First glass I’ve ever broken in a piece of equipment since I could reach the pedals. Looks like the complete door is around $2000 so we’ll see how tomorrow goes. It’ll depend how bad the rental company sticks it to us.

$6500 later, the body shop called and said it's done

I'm gonna have a phone call with the shop owner tomorrow morning, and it's not gonna be pleasant 😕

Everyone's incompetence is physically and mentally draining me these days 😭

I wanna take the Fusion in for it's airbag and floor mat recall, so there's probably gonna be some screaming and cursing at my local Ford dealer

Then once I'm done working on my third bleeding ulcer, I gotta go to the DMV and take my permit test for a CDL B w/air brake enforcement, because I need a better paying job

Oh, and the Villager barely runs, with a flashing check engine light and no power, I suspect the infamously POS NS60 distributor has bit the dust again 🙄
