What are you working on today?

Lately I have just been getting the travel trailer ready for summer. Resealing everything, a repack of the wheel bearings. Stuff like that.
Next on the list is the boys 1997 Z71. We are going to do redo some of the front suspension components. At least his truck fits in the garage.

Just doing a few safety checks on the motos before doing some long rides this weekend. The WR front and rear caliper bleeder screws were weeping fluid, evidenced by dust collection at the bleeder. When I checked them, they weren't loose but they weren't as tight as they should have been.
Also trying to tune out the jerky power delivery on the WR -- the fuel injection system creates an abrupt off-idle response that's no fun unless you're racing. I understand Yamaha smoothed it out for the later WR450F models and I'm so glad these things have a user-friendly power tuner available. A fatter fuel curve helps, but I don't want to carbon up the combustion chamber and I don't want to worsen the fuel range either... the 2-gallon tank is too small already.

Replaced the window regulator and motor assembly on an 04 dodge caravan. Also replaced the belt tensioner, idler pulley, and changed the oil.

Replaced the starter in the twin 1990 today. I couldn’t find any starter but this one so I am keeping the old one and having it rebuilt. It was fun in a way it’s always that one bolt that trips you up but my friend who was helping got it.

Got a customer bringing in a 00 Lincoln town car to check the alternator on. Will probably end up changing the alternator and doing an oil change and grease job as well.

Over the course of the last two weeks I did some work on the brake system on the Burb.

1. Removed all the winter tires and put it up on jack stands.
2. Hooked up a pressure bleeder and flushed out the entire brake system. Made sure brake bleeder screws were in good shape.
3. Removed the rear calipers and serviced the calipers including fighting seized pins. Pads were good. Re-lubed the pins and pad ears. Cleaned up the caliper assemblies.
4. Inspected the E brake shoes and set up the correct setting for E brake. Re-installed each disc/drum which was still good. Antisieze on flange.
5. Removed and replaced master brake cylinder after bench bleeding new cylinder.
6. Installed new AC Delco Professional master brake cylinder.
7. Pressure bled at 10 psi while slowly pumping brake. Bled all four corners a few times.
8. Lubed contact points on front calipers.
9. Installed the 17” x 33 “ summer tires. Torqued to140 ft lbs.

Beer.

Is that the street you have to move your truck from before the city tows it? I'm guessing for expired inspection? Put a cover on it? Swap windshields?
Yeah it’s not registered yet. I have my appointment at the DMV. I will be getting antique plates since I won’t be driving it much and it won’t pass inspection without a muffler.

Replaced this power steering pressure hose on a Highlander this morning. Customer deposited it at the shop during the week complaining of a noise under the hood... the hose had split just past a crimp and lost all the fluid... noise was the pump whining. Replaced the hose and flushed the system thoroughly with bulk DEX/MERC.

I just got home from making a deal on my new truck....a $500 1980 Ford F100. 😁 300 straight 6, 3 speed on the column. Needs brake work, fuel system work, shift linkage adjustment, and somehow I've got to get that tree out from between the cab and bed. 🤔 ought to keep this old man busy for a minute.

Finished changing thermostat on my son's 2008 Ford Focus. Felt rough idle and car would never get warm during past winter. Got luke warm heat, but not blistering hot. Ordered $10 thermostat off Rockauto along with Fram air filter to swap out today. Took time, cursed a bit, and overall, it took about three hours as I have never changed thermostat in my life and this one was buried behind the intake. This YouTube DIY helped immensely to get the job done properly. Thermostat's gasket was damaged ripped and didn't seal properly and my diagnosis was bang on. Engine warmed up within five minutes of driving.

Yay....finally smooth idle and blistering heat with engine operating in proper temperature. Time for a beer.

Building some new trails on our land, today using my dads chainsaw, I fell about 90 trees, big, small, and in between. Using our D6, skidded out the first 32, lots more to clear and skid. But every journey begins with that first step...in this case, first tree fallen, begins the journey to expand our track.
