I had an elusive leak from my house water filter. Then a nylon shaft broke. Much of the problem stemmed from the filter's on/off switch which I don't need because we were smart enough to put a ball valve before the filter.

In the end at 10:30p with no water I went scorched earth and made a piece to substitute for the broken nylon shaft, eliminating the on/off feature I don't need.

Sometimes living with lathes is a good thing ;)

No leaks, I'm happy.

Changed out the M1 ESP 5w30 in the Bluetec with Havoline ProDS 5w40 and a Hengst filter.

This is the first 5w40 oil to ever go in, was curious to try to it since it's one of the few 229.51 spec 5w40 oils that I've found, locally to boot.

PTU takes a super expensive ($60/qt) synthetic AC Delco 75W-90 PTU specific fluid, which I chose to use. Would a regular GL-5 EP 75W-90 fluid work? Perhaps, but I don't want to be the guinea pig and take a chance on a $1K+ unit. Couldn't find any evidence online that aftermarket fluids have been used successfully or that they might work long term. All the major oil vendors (Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil1, etc.) list no product available for this application.
I had a similar story with a friend’s Lexus. It calls for Toyota Transfer Oil LX 75W GL-4, it uses a Toyoda(JTEKT) t-case with a Torsen diff in it. Toyota wants $80/L for it. All the Lexus LC/T4R-based SUVs, as well as the Tacoma, LC200, and the 2014-on Tundra/Sequoia call for it. Red Line just released MTL-LV and it seems to work fine in this pavement princess.

Finished off the remaining fuel filter on the skid steer. I bought an adjustable plier type filter remover knowing it was likely going to tear the filter cartridge. Gave it the old college try and it began to leak without any movement. Flipped the filter head on the bracket to get a better grip at the filter base... no dice. Oh well hammer and chisel for the win. Had worse, had better. No leaks and she runs like a top.

Then blew out the cabin filters, air filter and cooling stack. Ready for work.

Today at work wasn’t very busy. Just done a lot of training and took the interior of a Tacoma out. It was molded so we are stripping the interior then we are going to install all new interior. I can’t remember what the total amount is going to be it’s like double digit grand lol. This is a 2018 Tacoma. Customer has a CB radio in it well did have one and he drilled holes in the roof for his antenna mount and all those years it’s been leaking so it got bad. It’s really nasty to work on. He also said he never really closed the back sliding window so I’m sure that’s a contributing factor as well.

Also changed the oil in a Sienna. Not an ordinary Sienna though. This one is voice controlled and has all kinds of stuff wired up cause the person who owns it has no arms actually so i actually enjoyed working on it cause he was a super cool and super nice guy. He had to pull it in and out of the shop, bay and service lane. It will only work if it’s his voice talking to it and I have no idea how to work floor controls for steering and all of that. Also you can only enter from the back as the seatbelt doesn’t unbuckle it just slides onto him when he starts the car. They always let him bring it in. He has patronized our Toyota franchise for years. He is a professor actually at Virginia Tech which is one town over from my dealership. When the service advisor went to get him so he could take the car out he was grading papers on the floor of the lobby. I’ll give him credit he can do stuff pretty well. He told me how he lost his arms too. Just a super nice person and i could tell that just by talking to him. I’d love to have him as my professor if I went to college. He was grading papers by holding a pen in his mouth and checking them. Things like that fascinate me. My manager specifically picked me to work on this vehicle and I told him next time he comes in I want to do it. I helped him load up his bag and get all his papers together off the waiting room floor and loaded back into his van. That’s just something I really enjoyed doing because I know that I helped out someone who normally has a harder time getting around.

Drive Belt and Coolant drain/refill on the MIL’s 13 ES350 with 60K.

This car is pretty rusty but I felt brave enough to utilize the rear block plug. It worked out - total removed was just under 8 qt out of the 9.9.

Since I was feeling extra lucky I refilled the cooling system using my vacuum filler, but did not bleed the system. 😆🤞

Yesterday got the injectors replaced on the 01 ranger. Ended up replacing the spark plugs, plug wires and air filter too, as well as changed the oil.

The 77 K10 is on hold until the customer decides what they want to do. I told them more than likely they'll need new cam and lifters. There's no warranty on the rebuild as they did it themselves, seems they did a good job but got bad luck with lifters.

The engine for the 01 Tahoe that I've got at the machine shop hit a snag, needs a cylinder head. That's going to put everything just over budget. Crankshaft is ruined, but typically this shop includes a crank kit in the estimate just in case.

Today I've got a 2009 Tahoe in for brake work

2009 Chevrolet Tahoe
Replaced front brake pads and rotors, replaced rear pads and turned rear rotors

1995 Chevrolet Cheyenne 1500 4wd
Replaced right front upper control arm assembly, replaced front brake pads and rotors

Finally coordinated a little time to work on my parents' '06 Silverado (with 6.0 and 92k miles!)

Installed front Bilsteins and wired in aftermarket resistors. The truck rides SOOO much better than the old AutoRide shocks!

They wanted an oil change but my lift was tied up. Wow, I haven't done an old school creeper and ramp change in long time. First world problems!!!

Finally my step dad basically can't lift the tailgate anymore but he identifies as a full size truck owner. I installed one of the Hoppy EasyLift torsion bars and initial impressions are very positive. Highly impressed!!

Really not much today at work. Tomorrow we have a ton of appointments unfortunately. I don’t like being busy lol. I done some Toyota training which is boring as crap and the rest of the time I just helped where I could. Waiting on interior parts for the Tacoma that had mold in it. I’m helping one kid who is younger than me study for his state inspection license. I had a headache after lunch and felt like crap but I still done a few things. I feel better now. I just think it was because it was so hot in the shop. We can’t turn on the air conditioning until Memorial Day unfortunately and we have one boss who is obsessed with having the doors closed.

Edit: also helped the guy next to me get his new box loaded up with tools. He bought it off the Matco truck with his trade in and everything just under $3k. He asked me blue or black and I said blue so there is a nice pretty dark blue box sitting next to my orange pumpkins now lol.

Never understood this coming from a Mechanic?....Not just you because I've heard it from many, Day goes by faster when you're busy & the company making money allows us to keep our jobs.
