What are you working on today?

Tied up loose ends on the Focus real quick. Wire tie here and there, most fasteners are brittle. So far no leaks and runs good besides a CEL for o2s heater circuit. Never using anything but Felpros from now on.

Came inside and sanded yuck and got one cabinet put together.. Ikeas rail system sure makes it easy. Like to get quite a bit in place for my wife's Christmas present.

The Milan passed it's annual NYS shakedown 👏

I rewarded it with a wash, a bottle of Redline SI-1, a full tank of ⛽, and replacing this clip that holds the A Pillar trim tight
Airing up the tires, topping off the washer fluid, new wipers, etc
It's as ready as it's ever gonna be for the winter season
Aren't I just the best brother ever 🙂
Oh, and I cut down a new H9 for the xB, it can see again 👀

Today I did some cold weather preparation. Ran the generator and checked all functions, put a couple of small space heaters in the shop on low heat near the wash basin and the main water line, left the basin faucet on a slow drip. Also have firewood on standby for the house.

Changed battery in the Yukon, replacing 6YO batt that was cranking a bit slow at 40 deg,.don't want to chance the single digits.

For a memory saver, my near vintage, if not vintage, Radio Shack 25A 13.8 VDC power supply. This is great as it has headroom if a door is opened and a small load is introduced by accident during the change.

The threaded post on the POS terminal and the ground strap on the head is perfect.

Those test leads won't handle 25A for sure, but for this task with me not introducing any other loads than the PCM it will work.

This afternoon received a call from my non-profit that their beater '87 F150 wasn't starting. Sounded to me like the starter was spinning but not engaging the flexplate.

I realized I had an '81 Bronco out back so threw some cardboard in the mud and slid under to pull that starter.

As I laid on my back under this '80-86 Bronco I felt like Schwarzenegger and looked over to an imaginary young John Connor to ask for a toke wench but no one replied. Before I could ponder my sanity further I quickly pulled the starter and ran over to my non-profit to swap it out.

Also, anyone ever notice he's NOT handed a torque wrench? And why would you bother torquing starter bolts in the middle of the Mexican desert on a SBF??

Got almost all the uppers done, moved the outlets for the stove and hood and moved the gas line. Didn't quite like how the cabinets were going to line up on the end so changed sizes. Good thing about Ikea I ordered a 24 inch in a couple minutes and get it next week. Will have a spare 12 to put somewhere. Far from done and tuckered out but the wife is ecstatic so that keeps me going.

Working on a little awning at my non-profit. Got to break out my notcher for the first time in a long time and notch some old 2" oilfield pipe

I rarely use my Jawhorse(s) but for some things they really are nice.

My little Hobart Trek keeps ticking. 220V output (180A) on a 110V extension cord of unlimited length. Handy.

I cheat by concreting 2.5" pipe in the ground, length wild. Then I sleeve 2" into it and set my final desired height and weld.

Nothing like showering in sparks on Christmas day!!

So the Fusion apparently doesn't like sitting in the cold unused for a week or so
I suspect it's something belt driven
Since it has a new belt, and 3 new idler pulleys, all that's left is alternator/water pump/AC compressor

...that's a next year problem 🫤

Is it possible that one of the new pulleys is bad, or maybe you didn't quite get one tightened down all the way?

And Arnold was "torqueing" the bolts vertically like on a Chevy :)

Well, one of them was non Motorcraft

And parts quality these days is sus 😳

It's a good theory 🤷‍♂️
I'm also curious on this, as my LS motor made a very similar sound when I started it with 8 deg F ambient. Sounded like the belt trying to flex being old and very cold temps. Went away once warm. Had no real rhythm to it and sounded like a creaking waist belt I once had...lol.
