What are you working on today?

Got a call last night that my parents had no water to the washing machine, found the pipes were frozen. A few minutes with a torpedo heater pointed under the house and we had water spraying. This short section of 1/2" PVC was cracked. Fortunately since we all live an hour from the big box stores we keep several containers of fittings, pipe, glue, etc. Had it cutout and repaired by 10pm last night. Eventually I'll get around to redoing all of this-the galvanized pipe and rubber hose has been in there at least 20 years now. It was a previous repair by my grandfather.

Today I finished a hub pilot conversion on my lowboy trailer(new hub, drum, bearings, shoes and seal along with 2 used tires and a new aluminum outer wheel). Only did one wheel position as it had a bad seal and couldn't source enough parts locally for all 4. Headed out on a 1.5-2 day run into Illinois to pick up a farm tractor. I'm off work until the 3rd burning the last of my vacation time so I'm filling in by running the semi. Filled up with 186 gallons of diesel which should more than get me back home and allow me to run the truck for a night. Put in 3 cans of Schaeffer Diesel Treat 2000.

Wife's SUV needed new battery. Old AGM was six years old and with last week's super cold temperature, I was summoned to boost it after her work. Costco's Energizer AGM (made in Germany) and replacing was typical Honda/Acura which took under 10 minutes.

My two older boys and I did a performance brake upgrade on his '13 Focus. EBC slotted/dimpled rotors, EBC Yellowstuff pads, Stoptech stainless lines, and Stoptech racing 600 fluid. Looks good. Stops well. Should work for some AutoX/HPDE for him next year.

I passed at least 7 semis on turnpike December 24th. Found out their fuel gelled up badly. How much you pay for diesel? I see you still have snow there🥶

It’s 3.69 a gallon here. Started the day in the 30s and it’s 12 right now. Most of the big companies don’t cover fuel system care in driver training so the poor guys just don’t know. I’ve had terrible luck with Howes too and that’s one of the most readily available fuel treatments in truck stops.

Trouble call: Alternator replacement on a GM Atlas 4.2L I6. With that much AC lines in the way I was thinking about discharging the AC just to do an alternator replacement. Told owner to replace/warranty the year old battery since it tested 7v and strongly suggested not to install the dead battery and jump start it.

There's no need to discharge the a/c? I did IM and VC gaskets on an '02 and one of the alternator bolts (lower?) took a couple combinations of low profile/flex head stuff to find one that worked best, but it wasn't that big a deal.

Flexed some of the A/C lines to make way for the alternator. Bottom bolt was a bear since it backed out onto an AC line.
Got serious noodle arm going at that bolt with a regular 15mm wrench since this was a mobile call and didn't have as assortment of tools.

Finally got some service done on my wife’s fusion. Replaced 4 tires, lower control arms, air filter and cabin filter. Cabin filter was original (embarrassed how bad it was). Motorcraft control arms and filters were installed and Goodyear weather ready tires. Both bushings were very tired in both arms causing clunking on low speed braking and noise over bumps.

Now that you say that, that was the job that made me get on tekton.com and order 15mm sockets in 1/4" drive :)

Got the aluminum horse ready to go tomorrow, just had to recharge the lights. Got the studded tires on the steel bike. Took off a couple weeks to hit the kitchen hard now back to riding!

Upper corner is pretty much done. Fastened the small lower and put the door on. Interesting contrast the blue and white.

1970 International Scout/800A with a 304/Borg Warner T39 Auto. Also known as a Borg Warner Model 11.

Complaint of No Park, Dropped the pan & valve body/2nd servo body, Found the parking pawl relay mechanism sitting on top on the valve body....Came apart because the Pawl Fulcrum Return Spring which also holds the relay pins in place broke.

This part by itself is near impossible to source except for this place called Charlietranny.com, He wants $96 plus $14 shipping. I was about to swallow that....But after looking at some super common GM transmission parts he had for sale at 4X market value, I came to the conclusion that he's gouging for no reason & I'm not going to participate in it.

Located a Borg Warner Model 35 out of a '78 Jaguar XJ-6 for $85, This unit is a vastly different but the Parking Pawl stuff is the same. Thanks goes out to John @ John's Cars in Dallas TX. If you need any Jaguar parts or GM V8 Jaguar swap parts/kits....Give him a call.

Temporarily assembled the Pawl Relay mechanism just to make sure nothing is bent, Works fine just need the spring, Going to go get the Model 35 unit in the next few days as time allows.

I noticed the hose clamp filling in for the 2nd Servo adjusting screw jamb nut....That will be corrected as well.
