When I first heard this song, I didn't think it was great. Good and catchy, but maybe not great
Now I think it's a classic. Odd that.
Singer and guitarist have both passed on.
I wasn't listening to music when that stuff was coming out. Took a break for a while when the young sons were in the house. I do recall hearing that way (too much) over the radio. Funny, I always thought that was done by The Police & Sting. LOL.
Speaking of Sting & The Police:
We had a run down old warehouse near the river that was turned into an awesome concert venue
(really was a dump) barley standing , lol really was like termites holding hands YET with amazing acoustics. Seemed every band from the early 60s , The Doors thru the early 80s BeBop Deluxe to Punk Rock bands played there.
Sting tells the story that the place was so laid back and really almost on
auto-pilot when they first came there. He said he walked up to the giant wooden (barn style) doors and asked the bouncer/ticket man,
where he was wanted/supposed to show up? "I am with the Police" he told the idiot. The guy barely looked up and told him
"oh yeah , security thru that small door over there." Ha ha ha . Jackhole did not even know The Police were the band that night.
The very last bands were The Police / Foghat / E.Costello / LoverBoy / B52s / Molly Hatchet + Henry Paul Band / ZZ Top and The Clash.
Some of the very first and repeat bands were from Greatful Dead / Savoy Brown early Peter Green FLeetwood Mac / Allman Brothers / Grand Funk / Chicago / Joe Cocker / Joe Walsh/ The Outlaws / Pink Floyd / The Byrds / The Doors / Ten Years After / Humble Pie / Quicksilver Messenger Service and all the greats in between. Emerson Lake & Palmer showed up a day early for the following nite gig. Next day there tractor trailers (3) worth $$$$$$$ of equipment was gone/stolen. Someone in the area put ELP in touch with local bikers and within 24 hours they had the equipment returned for a small fee (well ELP said) it was a small one. The bikers response was they thanked ELP for some "green" and the free entrance to their two sold out shows and offered to work security for the place. They even did for a few months until they did such a good job just the rumor they were working there was enough to stop any further crimes. Ah, the good old days..... You could get away with going anyplace, doing just about anything, have fun, cruise all over and stay out all the night. Now young folks need to be cautious as there are not any place you can go , relax or do a thing without either Big Brother filming your every move. Big Brother can be anyone from authorities to some 8 year old with means to film you in hopes of becoming the next internet - film footage - you tube - papparazi mogles of the day.
