What are you eating right now?

Hey Pablo, a year or two ago you mentioned one or another kind of sudden coffee intolerance. Can you please jog my memory? What was the problem and did you ever find the exact cause? I'm asking because I have given up coffee in the early morning. It made me feel ever so slightly nauseated. I'm okay if I drink it after 11:00 or so.

I never got an exact cause nailed down but some beans and not others seemingly gave me violent sheetz.

Has not repeated

PS: MY GUESS - coffee plants get sprayed with a lot of stuff and the berry processing well not always sanitary. I don't expect a large bio-load after roasting could be chems

Nothing like that here, luckily. I don't even want to drink black tea in the morning any longer because it also makes me feel queasy. That's probably the tannins.

So it does it with whatever organic beans you try?

Could just be a compound or two in one variety or another that you grew less tolerant
Any coffee between 04:30 and 11:00 has been problematic. That's if it's black and that's the only way I like coffee during the first half of the day. The kind of beans don't seem to matter. A latte causes no problem but I enjoy a latte only later in the day.

Lack of Italian blood and culture is all I can add.

Seriously - My wife always says "It's the acid" while eating or drinking something more acidic than coffee. It's interesting that milk does buffer it for you.

What style of prep? How about a perfect espresso? Long pull? (cafe lungo)

I'm near the target of 200 pounds after 11 days. 11 lbs down in 11 days. And I'm full of meatloaf. So that's my gross weight.

I had a fried slice of meatloaf on toast with ham and cheese, also potatoes, peppers, Brussels sprouts, peppers, and a triple threat of kale, spinach, and chard with sesame ginger dressing.

Right. No risk of involuntary and explosive excretion just slight and transient malaise. Similar to how AM feels after eating a leaf of kale, I imagine.

Can't see the acid being the problem. A cup of coffee is merely a drop of acid added to a pool of stomach acid. More likely the fat in the cream or milk slows the absorption of whatever causes the nausea. I love having black coffee or mocha with a few figs or dates in the morning.

Usually pour-over. Doesn't seem to matter either.
