Browsing BITOG after dinner, after I saw the 2nd car accident happen in front of me in my life.
7pm, dark, I was in the right lane pulling away from an intersection at 25 - 30 mph, 20 yards away from the intersection.
then the lady in a red Mitsu Outlander Sport in the left lane and diagonal from me by less than a car-length hit something causing a loud thud, I see a body fall onto the lane cat-eyes and brake, while swerving right. all in an instant, by pure reflex.
I get out and the over-60 man is still for 30 seconds (no bleeding). Then he starts moving and moaning. I tell him to stay still. Lucky for him, he was around the two people who don't gun through that intersection, lol.
picked up the dude's shoe which flew 20 yards down the road; other people picked up his hat, other shoe.
ambulance took him away.....dude's lucky day even if he doesn't realize it.
gave my statement. Lady's underbody splash shield popped out of the grooves and was hanging loose. Went under the car and popped the shield back in.....all the rivets were gone! (thank you oil change places who are in a rush)
moral of the story.....defensive driving + there but for the grace of God (or pure luck) go I.
ps, i suddenly remember 7 years ago i came across a motorcycle accident, after it happened but before the ambulances showed up. That had a totally different vibe. The motorcyclist was limp and alone in the middle of the intersection, the eyewitnesses looked shocked. and the nurse who was a bystander wasn't in a rush to return to the body with her first aid kit. totally forgot about that under right now
