Picking up my Chinese food and then going home to watch the World Series. As much as I hate to say this…. Go Yankees for World Series. I’m tired of Dodgers already lol. I almost never root for an AL team but they are better than the Dodgers. They will probably lose but at least they won a game last night finally.
The price we pay for our ignorant youth.All gotta learn , some of us hard ways. But stay on em. They will hopefully thank you one day.
I am almost 100% deaf in my left ear thanks to gowing up in the 60's and 70s. Operating chainsaws, lawn equipment, motor cycles, heavy equipment etc... without protection.... then lots of other things spring to mind too.
We had many very loud muscle cars all over my tiny town. Seemed every teen guy could not wait to make driver's liscense age. Reason was of course to purchase your very own used one , since used was all we could afford with our after school job monies we squirelled away for that first set of wheels. As if hanging in those circles of friends and their machines was not enough, we also had a professional drag strip in another tiny town only 7-9 miles from my house. Huh? Ear plugs? Hearing protection.....? What that now? We knew not and cared less. OOPs.
Add to that, like many on BITOG I would bet , came hunting or shooting. I hunted big & small game for years. Ducks and deer with loud guns from about age 12 to 66 years old. Of course no hearing protection was even considered. The one that really popped my ears was in the 1990s the very first time I shot my Ruger Blackhawk revolver 357mag. Again, not thinking about it. Boom! I can promise I thought about hearing protection after that first shot seemed to have blown out one of my ears. Never fired that gun or any since without ear plugs.
Then to one of the major hearing killers for many my age was the thing called rock concerts. I and the wife , who were together years before marriage in 78 , have attended so many rock , country , jazz etc.... concerts we lost count many years ago. Really must be a number over 100 easy. I think the ones who probably did the most damage to my ears was Emerson , Lake & Palmer or possibly a band called Montrose with Sammy Hagar. Of course the Irishman , Robin Trower I can blame as well since we saw him so many times. I'm certain there are some others who were extremely loud that I am not thinking of now. Almost forgot two of the loudest.... Humble Pie and Grand Funk Railroad. Many of those performers themselves are near deaf these days.
Whaaaats that? Huh? Wife and I been living in the empty nest for almost 20 years now and we do that to each other across the house all the time. "whaaaaat was that?" "wait a darned minute till I walk that way! I can't hear or understand one word you are saying." The crazy is when one of us misunderstands the other and think we are on a subject that has nothing to do with what started the talk. LoL.
In college I had two room mates who had this comedy act they were always improving on where they would play an old deaf couple. They always had us in tears.

^^^ Eye and ear protection ... very easy to do, and should be learned to become a habit when young. I started wearing ear plugs when shooting guns when I was 14. Had some cool ear plugs (called "Sonic Ear Valves") that would allow you to hear with them in just like you weren't wearing any ear plugs ... but when they sensed air pressure from a gun blast they cut off the noise. Still have those. I just Googled them, and there are still ear plugs like those made today. Mine were bought in the 70s, and might have been pretty new on the market back then.
Edit - had to go dig them out and take a photo. They have a mechanical valve in the big end, that closes when a shock wave hits them. They worked well from what I recall. I now use ear muffs with ear plugs for max protection when shooting.

We are at Papa John’s picking up a pizza for dad. I won’t eat their pizza because the sauce is horrible. I was a little disappointed this Halloween with the lack of trick or treaters I counted 14 and my mom had 3 before I got home. That’s even less than 2020. But there was a long period we went with only 1 or 2 per year for about 10 years. Just feels extremely underwhelming. Heck when I was a kid we used to stay out till like 11 or 11:30 trick or treating and there would be other kids out then too and a lot more teenagers. I guess it’s just changing demographics and social norms. I hate it but it is what it is. Things don’t stay the same forever.

Yeah. I never cared for Papa's pizza. I recall not liking the crust. Maybe the sauce too?
ZERO- trick or treaters here. People simply can't trust stangers anymore. Too dangerous to put young children (anyone really) at risk.
Went out last night for a bit of trick or treating--might be the last time as the youngest goes off to college next year.

Walked fast for 60 minutes. Trying to get back in some kind of shape other than round. Thinking about changing my oil in the Mazda with Valvoline Extended Protection. My union is still on strike but looks like I will be back to work by Wednesday.

They held what is called "Trunk a Treat" in the school parking lot where the wife teaches. This was also done at the church and schools my grandkids attend. Nice they were able to do something at least with people they all know well and feel safe with. A shame though because I am sure a lot of kids miss out these days due to no fault of their own.
Our church does it and it's always well attended unless it's really pouring down rain. Keeps the kids from getting run over.
Took my wife out for dinner. Went out in her Audi A4 quattro since she mentioned the clutch is acting funny. I assume the dual-mass flywheel is shot, will verify tomorrow. 116K miles. Didn't want to ruin the mood.

Is that one of those intersections up north where you have a rural/farm road that is supposed cross a 45 or 55 mph arterial from a stop sign? Those are all over the place in rural Western WA and it's really tempting to drive fast on those windy, narrow county highways.
Edit: I clicked your link. Seeing that young girl's face makes it hit way harder. My stomach churns at the thought of losing my own daughter that way.

No but people still rip on both . They are rural two lane roads. Plenty of sight distance. We heard all the sirens whiz by. Knew something bad was happening but not this bad. We donated $200. 11 year old daughter. Praying for her family
That's what I was thinking. Some of the rural two lane roads in our area have 45 or 50 mph speed limits but people go 60 or 70 on them and they will often have 2 way stops on side roads. Add in drugs and alcohol and it's a recipe for some bad collisions.
