Right now, I'm telling myself that I know better than to get involved in plumbing projects.
The 'crossmembers' in my tub drain rotted away, so I just pulled out the plug. Can't stand the sight of the drain hole, so I watched a few tutorials about how to replace the drain.
They ALWAYS make it look so simple. I guess they work on drains that are only a few years old in the videos, because this went very differently for me.
Got busy with the drain extractor, and twisted the drain pipe right out of the joint to the pipe going into the foundation. This led to having to cut a doorway in the sheetrock in the 3rd bedroom. So, add some sheetrock work to the tally. I'm tempted to install a trap door instead of sheet rocking the hole back up.
Finally managed to get the drain unscrewed from the drain pipe, by sticking a long screwdriver in it so it would hit a wall stud when it tried to spin some more. It's finally out, and I'm off to Lowes to buy a new drain pipe and drain. I sure hope I don't end up having to call a plumber for this.
This is not where my skills lie. Don't know why I even pick up a wrench when it involves plumbing work.
