I will be doing maintenence on a Lexus SC400 this weekend. RWD with a V8.. way cool. I got the supplies for it today and I'm surprised at how little the Oil filter is... It's a stock Hastings with the "Grater" center tube.. my opinion it's the best flow/support option out there.

Since I spin most wrenches on Fords, I'm used to seeing for a 6 or an 8, a bigger filter like the LF110.. It's weird imagining filtering 8 cyls with a filter that looks like it belongs on a 4-cyl.

I guess everything is smaller in Japan. Hastings all around for my cars regardless.

FJust my 2c, Federated/Hastings did not work well on my Yaris with vvti, Maybe a full deal Hastings (Clarecore) will have more media and better build quality. I posted a cut-open pics in the past and the unit was very marginal. What's the OEM part #?

SC400? Cool! I was always on the lookout for a clean used one but never found one. Sound like you got yourself a little hotrod. On the Filer - I would go to lexus and put a Denso JAPAN filter on that animal. Not Denso Thailand - different media.

Lots of domestic cars have small filters. You don't need a large filter when there's not much to contain...

I'm not sure but I think the SC400 engine is the same as LS400, the filter is mounted horizontal on the driver side, I use larger filters Motorcraft FL400S, Bosch 3422, Purolator Pure1 20195 and Mann ML1005.
