I am finally burning off the last of some old Homelite oil my Dad had laying around. (I know but I didnt want to waste any of it and mixed it a bit rich to be sure) I need to buy some 2 cycle oil. I just did a count and we have 6 small 2 strokes. 3 Stihls, 2 Shindiawas, and 1 Echo. All are in good running order.

I dont want to have to buy 3 different kinds of oils. Some of the stuff we have is 15 years old and has been run on a diet of either plane old Stihl, Echo, or Shindiawa branded oil for the most part. Do you have a preference or is one as good as the other?

Thanks.

I'm using the plain old Stihl stuff. Stihl dealer gave me a bunch of it when I bought my leaf blower, and 3 years later, I still have it and use it.

I'm using Quaker State that I get at the local home improvement store.

It's about as cheap as I can find, for a name-brand oil.

I use the Pennzoil they sell in the boat section at walmart. I buy a quart at a time and just refill the little bottles to measure. Around $5 if I remember right.

for 2T trimmer/hedger, I use Castrol Super 2T oil,
for my portable 2T gennie (HF), I use Castrol Actevo 2T oil.

I also stocked up on a couple of bottles worth of Esso semi-syn 2T oil just in case I run out of Activo.

Q.

Any two stroke oil rated TC will be fine. Jaso rating FC or FD would be better yet. FB will work. Stay away from any Two stroke TCW 3 oil. Boat oil causes a lot of hard carbon and this is especially hard on the smaller engines. I have a had Polaris two strokes with the rimgs frozen solid, after the owners ran boat oil.I have the same Craftsman Weedeater for over 20 years. It still runs fine and I have never been into the engine on it. Mercury Quicksilver makes a oil for motorcycles and boats, they sell at Walmart. They will tell you not to use their boat oil only oil in motorcycles or small air cooled engines. It will say that it has the TC rating. I have used this with good results.

my cousins run a landscaping company with about 25 employees, they use amsoil professional premix and run it at the 100:1 ratio. they use the trimmers all day long, everyday. I asked the cousin who handles the maintenance if they have had any issues.. he said each summer one or two trimmers needs the head cleaned out but no issues with lubrication. if he can run it in dozens of tools without issue for many hours a day.... it will be fine in your personal gear

I used to work for a local dirt bike track, and 5 days of the week, I was out there using whatever weedeater I could get running. My boss (owner of several sports cars including a new Lotus) never wanted to put money into machinery. His tractors he used and the water truck were complete rust buckets... anyway the weed eaters were total piles, and I tryed mixing what ever 2 stroke oil there was laying around. There was Citco, and Quaker State, and Amelie oil. Of the 10 or so weedeaters I went through (I got an ***chewing for each one) Citco 2 stroke seems to hold up the best.

Say does you cousin run Celtic Landscaping? My dad deals with most of the landscapers in the Chicago area.

TCW-3 is all I ever used in my Mcculloch string trimmer and it lasted 20 years. The starter gear broke, so I tossed it this year. Bought a rechargeable B&D, what a disappointment.

Amsoil Saber in the Weedeater-Leaf Blower-Chain Saw. All are replacements from last years tornado. {All are Stihl}

Why Amsoil? I can buy a Quart cheaper then I can drive to Ace and buy a 6pack of the 2.6oz

Premix, i go through a QT or 2 a year.

Stihl Ultra HP. Because I bought a KM-130R and it extended the warranty to 4 years. And I hear the 4mix needs a "clean"oil. At the rate I go through it, 2 gallons a season the 6 pack will last 3 years.
