This was Saturday and I just checked tonight and it said their are no unpaid tolls and that it takes 72hrs. I'm confused, do you get one freebie or something? I was researching on the internet and it said if you call them within 48hrs of it happening, they will just make you pay the $1.75 or whatever it is and they waive the fee. So I don't know I'd like to just get an ez tag honestly.

Opinions?

How much is it?

I believe all the systems in TX are tied back to DMV records.. they'll get their money eventually.

In fact, I once took a trip down there (I live in OK) and used some toll roads..and yup the 2 states share info so they sent me a bill.

It'll catch up to you eventually so maybe you should call. I have I-Pass that works on EZ Pass. I gave one of my transponders to my mom in New York and when she went through a toll without it, the charge showed up later on my account.

The cost is minimal if you go through a few tolls.

They look up your license plate address.

No bill no worry.

It might be about 50% more without toll tag if paid within like 30 days.

I live in West Texas and have the DFW toll tags on both cars in case I go to DFW, Austin, or Houston.

I can't be gone for 3 months and get that bill that starts going crazy with fees.

I heard their was a 30 dollar processing fee on top of the toll

You'll get a bill. You can proactively try pay.

sometime you won't se the bill until license renewal time when you get a big bill to reregister your tags.

If you know and can contact the transit authority who owns that particular stretch of road sometimes you can phone in and pay.

Some transit authorities like the one in LA allow you to log on and pay it up to 5 days after transit with no penalty.

You might not get a bill.

I drove through one 4 years ago in San Francisco and never got anything in the mail.

Yes, there is some crazy fee they add on. I don't remember what it is. My dad drove through in my truck once about 15 years ago not realizing I did not have a tag. A $0.50 toll ended up costing over $20. The bill came about 6 weeks after he did it.

If you get a tag, get the TxTag. It is free (HCTRA charges a $15 tag fee), you just need to sign up with a credit card. They charge $20 at a time, when it gets to like $4, they charge another $20.
I despise tollways and when I use them, I always just paid cash (kept the Dollar coins in the vehicle just for that purpose).
I finally gave in 2 years ago when they opened up the Grand Parkway (no toll booths, only Toll Tags) by my house. I spend maybe $10/month most months between me and my wife (each tag has a $20 minimum, so they take out $40 every 3-4 months). Now that it is open up to 59 North, I have used it a little more often when it is rush hour or going to Bush Intercontinental (and have to pay to use the Hardy toll road as well

). I think it is around $7 each way from Katy to New Caney.

did you call OSBI to resolve it?

My BIL, on the other hand, does not live/drive anywhere near SF and managed to get a nasty letter for running a toll booth. Had to get a signed statement from his boss that he was at work in LA that day, not running toll booths 400 miles away.

I know in PA for the Turnpike they'll mail you a bill and a fine. I think somebody told me it was almost $300, but can't confirm that's the actual number. I keep an EzPass account with all my vehicle's tags in the system. I know getting off at Allegheny exit the pass did not read, but since the tag was registered through EzPass no fine.

It depends upon the state. Some its a $20 or $30 processing fee plus toll. On the Mass Pike there is no cash option. So if they bill you it's a low fee like $5.00.

If you have an Ez-Pass then reply to them with your tag number and a check for the toll and tell them their sensor malfunctioned reading your tag. Turn the issue around. I always do that and never pay the fee.

I have a license plate with a poor paint job. The paint is peeling. Hard to read with your eyes much less a camera. I wonder what would happen if I did not have an Ez-Pass.

Pick up the phone and call them. Then get an EZ Tag. Problem solved.

I forgot I was driving a rental and drove thro the EZPass lane once. I called it in and the guy said to wait for a bill to show up, if at all. Nothing ever came. Dunno if the rental place just shrugs off an occasional bill, or if they both have some working understanding about it (not worth bothering mailing a bill / charging for one toll, gonna send a bill if it's 10 times, etc).

I have an EZ Pass transponder in each vehicle. Makes it very nice to just cruise on through. No carrying change or tokens. Very worth it on long drives.

I took the Pickle parkway(Georgetown to Seguin)as suggested by a rv dealer and the bill showed up three months latter. $35 with a penalty as it had to catch up to me in the mail system as I lived in Mission for two months. Basically from what info I received is without the pass was another 25%. Getting around the Austin destruction and stop and go for two hours was worth it but still kinda stiff IMO. Was almost nobody on it
