water stopper for soldering copper

years ago my local plumping supply sold what looked like a soft plastic egg to push into the open copper pipe to prevent water from messing up while you solder then heat that spot about 4" into the pipe + it melts allowing water flow. dont remember correct name but no-sweat or similar came up but cant even find to mail order! there was 1/2 + 3/4" sizes. love to get some as girlfriends well water causes leaks regularly. i know it should be replaced with 3/4" plastic for domestic water. thanks in advance for a working source

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

What I remember was a rubber plug on the end of a rod that you could twist and stop the flow.
No clue what they were called.

If you must solder....Open a faucet and put a shop vac on it while soldering. Keeps all the water vacuumed away.

After buying an electric oil pump, I relegated my hand pump oil extractor to plumbing duties. On one difficult joint where the isolation valve was passing slightly I had the Mrs pumping away at the extractor while I soldered the joint.

Here in the UK, plumbers mostly use plastic these days but when space is at a premium there is nothing that takes up less space than an end feed copper joint.

i have used white bread in the past ONLY because i cant find the fool proof plugs i described. searching brings up sure sweat as well as no sweat but no place to order!
