Watch out for scammers

We went to the store. Came out and some lady is screaming at us saying that we hit her car when we pulled in to park. We drove straight into the stall and we're 2+ ft from the car they were driving. We had enough room to fully open the passenger door so that our cousin could get out from the back seat.

Car next to us was a Ford fusion.

Came out of the store and some Elvira looking lady started screaming at us. She pointed to her mirror and was screaming that it's going to cost $400 to fix the scratch. Then she said she wants a whole new mirror and those are $400.

I looked,wife looked, little cousin looked and there was no scratch anywhere to be found. We then realized that her car is parked so close to us that we can't get my door open enough to get the kid back into the back seat.

Elvira started getting belligerent! Called my wife fat and me a balding fat ( word that starts with an F).

I had not even said a word to her at this point. She said that that her jaguar is a better car than my p.o.s. truck. She started getting real mad so my wife called the cops.

As soon as the cops were called they left. We got plate pics and pics of her wheel over the line etc.

I called my insurance company to tell them what's going on in case they try to do something sneaky.

Pretty sad, but I'm not surprised. You have to wonder about some people.

I usually try to park a long ways from people and often come out to find someone parked right next to me. You can't win.

One would guess that they would get able to work this scam better at Macy's or jc Penney. Not some old guy in a 30something year old truck at a thrift store.

I drive "older" vehicles, but I park next to NO ONE...Out in the back 40, diagonally, next to a curb when possible...Don't care how far I have to walk. Never had scum like this approach, but you certainly offer valid reasoning for me to continue to do as I'm doing. BTW, my 2004 Buick Lesabre Celebration Edition has NEVER been thru a car wash, has NO "swirl marks" in the paint, etc. Just because it's "older" doesn't mean it gets abused.

I park far away when I'm alone. My wife has equilibrium problems and a bad back so I park as close as I can with her.

This. I once parked way out in e nearly empty parking lot. Sea of empty spaces. I came out to find that some loser not only parked right next to me, but was so blinking close I couldn't get the drivers door open! I had to crawl over! In a sea of empty spaces. Nuts.

Best thing you can do is document everything with pics, etc. and then file that documentation away in case it is needed at a later date.

This is fraud on their part BTW. Good job on calling the police as well.

These types of scams often pop up around Christmas. I have a feeling this gal would have been happy to "settle the dispute" for a couple of twenty-dollar bills. The fact she took off right when the cops were called tells me she's tried this extortion scheme before and might be known to the authorities.

Typical holiday scam. Traffic is high, and they know a lot of people have their cash out to buy things.

When I visited my son last summer we were stopped at a light and watched a homeless guy try to get hit by a car when the light turned green. My son was driving and I told him to be on guard for that nonsense. We stopped and told the guy in the car next to us we witnessed the event, and would wait for the police to tell them exactly what happened. The homeless guy took off, [censored] he didn't score.

We had a similar situation in downtown Toronto. We were the 3rd car in line the light just changed green and this street person quickly walked right in front of us. If I didn't jump on the brake we would have hit him.
He deliberately J-walked into moving traffic. It shocked us for he would have been knocked down.
Later we reasoned that this low-life had schemed his 'lottery win' plan. I assume they must network their ideas.

The jerk I was referring to mistimed it. He was hoping to get hit more toward the fender and ended up closer to the passenger door. It was quite obvious what he was he trying to pull off.

I'd say it's a good thing you took a photo of her mirror AND that you called the cops. Also, does the store have a security camera? You might get a clip of you driving into the parking lot, although I bet you won't hear from her again because of everything you did before she took off.
The world is full of a bunch of money-hungry people. I once had a co-worker who was driving a couple blocks away from his house on the way to work, on his side of the street. and a 16-year old girl crossed the center and hit his car, with her clearly at fault. She gets out crying that her mom is super-rich and will pay for everything. She then begs that he does NOT call the cops. He calls the cops anyway and has them do an accident report and the report clearly stated that the 16-year old girl was 100% at fault.
You think that's the end of it, right? No. The 16-year old girl's mom was an ambulance-chasing lawyer who went after my co-worker about a month later. Luckily, he had the accident report that said the teenager was 100% at fault.
Cover all of your bases now.
