The Subaru plant in Lafayette, Indiana does assemble the Toyota Camry on one of its assembly lines.

Old news.... When GM started to go under they sold the Subaru stock to Toyota.

So sorry that I bestowed some old news onto you...

It is a little more recent than the 60's.

Lol no problem and no offense. The Toyota influences is quite noticeable with the new body styles and the nicer interiors.

Based on what I see on a daily basis in our Saturn shop, I'll take my Suby over a GM anytime, all the time. At least I'm not replacing steering racks, transmissions, and struts at 30,000 miles, believe me, I see it everyday. The cars are cheap junk. My Suby at 99,000 miles hasn't given me a lick of trouble.

I beat the living tar out of the 2.2L '97 legacy I drove in D.C., all over the mid-atlantic for mountain bike racing. It saw airborn flight, daily WOT (the 2.2 was grossly underpowered for that vehicle), rough "roads," trails, never missed a beat.

My brother has owned 2 gen 2 outbacks. First one blew it's HG after the dealer added 2 extra qts oil to the sump. (Dealer blamed him for an amateur OC. He pulled out the 4-day old service receipt. Dealer gave him a new car at cost and bought the old one, very quickly). he travels the world as a climber, river-runner, and once yearly leads research expeditions to the poles or other harsh places for $. When he's stateside, he lives out of the car. He rolled it off a 6' drop two years ago dodging a moose. Didn't even break the glass. Sturdy cars.
