As for the P1 cost, while the regular price is $6-6.50, it's frequently discounted. AAP now has them for $5, with an online code $3.30-$3.50. So now one can buy 2 P1's for less than the cost of one XG. As for can thickness, XG may be thicker, don't know, but in my experience, ~40 years in PC use, never had an issue with any oil cans thickness being an issue.

As pointed out above, while it may (or not) continue to be made in the USA, it's no longer American owned. Fwiw, though foreign owned, Purolator oil filters are made in America.
I will say, based on it's construction, the XG is only filter made by Fram that is close to being worth the price, especially when used for it's intended 10K OCI's. But, seeing as the OP's topic was the orange can, the XG wasn't really his focus. And making the P1 appear less than the excellent bang for the buck filter that it is, to make the XG look good, shouldn't be the point either, IMO.

I bought a Fram TG yesterday for my next oci. Will my engine be ok?

^^Oh,and my previous post is meant in jest. Fram TG`s give me the highest and most consistent oil pressure. Excellent filters imo.

Must be true then, even bad publicity is better than none at all. Also the reason that Advance has IMO, the better oil/filter change promos. Orange can or Purolator Classic, tough call.
