I never had anything against Fram until a few weeks ago when I was changing the oil on my mothers 03 Ford Escape and I spun on the PH2 but it did not feel right so I removed it and tried again but it did not seam to go on all the way so I felt around and the gasket was not even touching the block! So I grabbed a Quaker state QS2 made by Purolator that I had on the shelf and that spun on fine. I bought the OCOD at Menard's but I no longer have the receipt so I called Fram. After a short time on hold I got a person and explained the problum. He needed the vin number of the Escape but the truck was at my mothers house so he said he would E-mail me a form to fill out and send back. I did fill it out and send it back but I did not receive a reply from Fram. Now weeks later I called again and they sent me a different form to fill out and want me to pay for shipping of the filter to them so they can look at it and see if they should replace it!It will cost more to ship it than the filter cost.

This is not the way to treat a customer!
On a side note a friend had a problum with a Purolator and they sent a pre paid box for him to return it in plus they payed for the lost oil a new filter and mileage to drive and get the new filter.
Sorry for the long post

This sounds like somehow it was the wrong filter. Unless the threads were visibly damaged I can't see why it would stop threading on unless it was the wrong filter for the application.

3.0 V6 and I pre filled the filter with some oil thats why I did not try to return it with out the receipt.

This is the correct filter for the truck. I have used them before and it is what fram recommends for it.
The threads on the filter are cut very shallow.

With all the millions of filters any one company has made there is bound to be a bad one here and there.

Does your company have a 0 failure rate and a perfect record?

Though apparently in this case, they don't always thread properly.

lol good one

I'm not a fan of any company that gives bad customer service.

I don't care how good or bad the product is.

The company that sells a product that has a price to match the quality of the product and backs up the product with good customer service gets my money.

I think we are seeing in the bigger picture of our economy the folly of buying on price alone.

you guys are giving him a hard time because he mentions the threads, i wasnt there and i believe him, why would he make this up

Not sure who "you guys" are, but I don't doubt the OP. I was making a pun with use of double entendre and Groucho's post. defektes apparently got it.

This is a thread about the OP's orange can threads.

I had something similar happen years ago with a Lee on my Vanagon, as well as with (I think it was) a Purolator on one of our '86 Civics.
It does happen with any product manufactured at low unit cost and high volume.
No harm, no foul, and not exclusive to Fram.
I used Fram oil filters for many years in many applications, and never had an ounce of trouble.
YMMV, of course, but you could use Fram OCDs exclusively, and never see any problems of any kind.
There may be better buys out there, and I may now prefer other brands, but the basic Fram is probably no better and no worse than any other mainstream oil filter.

I agree. Ask me about my $18 OEM Land Rover filter that had a defective gasket and allowed at least a quart of oil flow out of it before i noticed. The truck sat for a few weeks after I changed it. Luckily I had a MANN filter replacement on hand. Took off the OEM, and saw the gasket was mishaped-not round with shape of the filter, rather it looked like it was warped with a wavy pattern.

_ _it happens in every business. Good thing you are not a ham fisted individual who would take the filter wrench and crank it down!

May the OCOD live forever

I'm the opposite: I started using Fram Extended Guard a few years back. In my opinion, you cannot get a more robust filter. I buy my Fram Extended Guard filters at Fleet Farm for around $8. That is a fair price for a sturdy thick cannister, 2 ply media with stainless steel backing, and extended drain interval capabilities.

I tried Purolater and was not impressed with how flimsy the cannister was, how the pleats are usually wavy when they are cut open, and how thin the baseplate seems to be.

So I'm spending maybe 2 bucks more for a filter that is built 10 times better, and being used on a vehicle valued at $20,000 or more. Using a less sturdy filter to save $2 makes no sense to me.

The clincher is I am buying an American product.
