You mean Dexron VI, right?

You can order a case of Wolf's Head Dexron-VI online (also GM licensed) for about the same price, shipped to your door.

I wonder if all Dexron VI licensed fluids are equal? I mean, they have to meet a criteria to be licensed as VI. In that case, the Supertech would be a value over a more expensive big name like Mobil or Castrol Dexron VI, etc.

Is this correct thinking? I need to do a flush and I'll be needing the VI fluid. Crossed between a namebrand and Supertech.

While Walmart treats their employees and customers like slime, I think they try and make sure their products are up to spec. Unsure if they do any testing, but am sure they push their vendors to provide products that meet a certain spec.

However if I had a decent mileage transmission fail due to the ATF that was in it, I would much prefer to deal with Amsoil than Walmart. I would think Walmart would list all the reasons why it was not the fault of the ATF and Amsoil would try and understand why the transmission actually failed. And who wants to go to Bentonville AK to talk to Walmart?

I am using it in my 03 Yukon. So far so good. It does have the license on the back so I feel its definitely better than the Dex 3 that was in there before.

Since GM has 5 yr / 100,000 mile powertrain warranties, it is going to be expected that people will use whatever licensed Dex VI products are out there for their refills to keep their warranty.

GM doesn't want to take hits for warranty claims because of people using inferior fluids, so I would bet that SuperTech is as good as the factory fill.

Anyone want to submit VOAs of the various Dex VI products? I have an bottle of SuperTech Dex VI leftover from a 4T45E oil pan replacement on my Saturn ION.

Here is one.

KV 100C 5.99
KV 40C 29.8
B 88 ppm
Ca 64 ppm
P 204 ppm
Si 7 ppm
S 1400 ppm

If they are genuine approved formulations there really isn't much in it since they all use the same additive package and the same VM. The main differences are base oil source, the amount of VM (within the range defined in the specification), seal swell, and PPD (if used).

Is that new in ATF, as an EP additive?

No, it shows up because it's indicative of a type of seal swell agent. That is all that I can say.

GM sets the spec for Dexron-VI. The spec is so tough that a non-synthetic base oil cannot meet it. At minimum, a synthetic blend of base oils is needed so the final product meets the performance spec.

The only caveat regarding brand is the consistency between batches of the product. The spec and the test are the same for all brands. Most of the batches are not tested, just mixed according to the recipe that did pass the testing. Do the low cost blenders produce every batch exactly to the recipe??? There must be some ways they can reduce their production costs so they can offer lower retail pricing.

Routine testing of 'off the shelf' product is part of the license maintenance procedure for OEMs such as Ford, GM and Chrysler and non-conformance with the originally approved fluid results ultimately in the removal of the license number.

sooo with that being said it would seem dexron VI is dexron VI regardless of what brand? (assuming it has the labels with manufactures approval and such...)

If it is a genuine licensed product, yes. DEXRON(R)-VI is a very tight spec. That was a deliberate objective that GM set themselves, to ensure that service approved fluid quality was more tightly controlled than ever before. Continuous improvement.
