Walmart Pennzoil Platinum 5 qt jug was 3/4 qt shy

Could have leaked out in storage, shipping, etc. To me it always seemed the Pennzoil brands were not as well sealed as others.

It's a good habit to check your oil an ensure it was not opened upon receiving. I had a Quaker State 5Q jug that had a broken seal but I didn't realize it until well after the return period. Just took the brand new bottle and recycled all the oil. Not worth the risk that someone changed out the fluid.

Yes. I believe it was. Looked ok. No time to go back today. Ughhh. I had some leftover from different vehicle to make up the difference.

Another concern is whether the remaining fluid in the bottle was actually what you thought it was. What happens sometimes is cheaper oil is replaced in the more expensive oil container and returned for a refund. Not trying to make you worry even more but something to think about.

What kind of oil pervert does that ? LOL

Did it have the anti-spill foil seal on it when you took the cap off or intact cap retaining seal? That would have been your first clue.
If the seal was intact, I'd say it's a shortage at production.
If the seal wasn't present or molested, I'd say you're the victim of a fraudulent return.

I've never seen any of the Pennzoil offerings with the foil seals, and you wouldn't know the plastic retaining seal was broken unless you checked it carefully. I've had several jugs where the retaining seal was actually stuck to the cap and slipped from the jug itself, which kind of defeats the purpose.

No seal. And as the Wizard stated I dont think Pennzoil uses them. The cap did twist off very easily which I think got my initial attention. Then I noticed the level . Which is a good thing I noticed it or may have thought car was guzzling oil next time I checked the level. I do not always check level right after cause I know I just put in 5 qts.

So you didn't check the see-thru thin window and didn't twist the cap lightly to check if the plastic seal was broken. If you turn the cap slowly counter-clockwise, it will reach a stop-point. It takes a little force to break that seal.

Had you turned that cap counter-clockwise and continued to turn it slowly without feeling that lock-point, then the cap comes right off and many times when that happens, your jug of Pennzoil is now probably a jug of store name-brand oil, like Amazon or Kirkland. It might even be a little thinner oil also.

Always check the cap seal and the little clear window oil level, before purchase. I got burned once around 20 years ago. Bought a Smitty's Oil at K-Mart and when I began to pour the contents in the engine oil fill hole, it was used, black oil in that jug.

I got upset when I bore witness to this sort of thievery. I was equally upset at the thief and also upset at myself, for not checking the jug seal or it's clear window of black oil..
