Walmart Oil Prices

I haven’t checked Walmart prices in a couple months but last I checked 0W30 ESP was around $27 and the 5W30 Extended Performance was on sale for around $26. I buy the Mobil1 FS 0W40 for my wife’s vehicle in bulk (12 quart box) for around $55.

I used to go absolutely crazy trying to find deals, rebates, sales, but they just haven’t been around. A few years back I was able to buy Rottella Gas Truck for ZERO dollars! Remember that Autozone rebate sale? They were practically giving it away at Autozone, then GTL had their rebate going on at the same time! I was either spending ZERO dollars at one point, or next to nothing for the RGT. I also picked up Valvoline Modern Engine at that time for $2 dollars a quart. Grabbed some QS synthetic for the same price. This is how crazy I went…I’d drive to different states cleaning the shelves off at Autozone. I probably spent way too much time, energy and gas money doing this, but it was fun.

I’ve since stopped. I’ll either order oil on Amazon now or buy oil with a slight discount at Walmart when it’s on sale. I’ll treat myself to Amsoil once in a while too. But I do mis those rebate days…my shelving in the garage looked like I owned an auto parts store. I had so much 0W20 that it influenced my next vehicle purchase. I’m serious. Haha.

I went to WM today with an open mind as to what I would leave with . I left (again) with M1 5W30 EP at $26 per jug . Valvoline synthetic was more expensive and PPPP 5W30 was decently priced down to $23 but I found it a tad too thin and had Hyundai 2.4L DI oil consumption issues with it . As long as I can get the M1 EP oil for $26 I’ll use it for my vehicles at a reasonable OCI .
Wouldn't your Hyundai be a perfect candidate for Valvoline Restore and Protect? I had issues with my Hyundai with bad fuel dilution even during the summer. And I changed my oils, at the time at 4,000+ miles, now I dump at 3,000-3,250. Always higher end oils ( Mobil 1 ESP, M1 Extended, Amsoil) I am tuned and my foot is in it all time. After my first use of Redline Performance (Ester) all that went away, in the summer and the 1.25 to 1.50 QT winter fuel dilution went down to .5 qt in the winter. My take on it, is I had jammed rings. In a NA engine and someone who's foot is not in it all the time you get high oil consumption. You own a Hyundai, I don't know another brand car that is so hard on oil then a Hyundai/Kia. Now I use HPL engine cleaner every other change with my Motul oil to keep them un jambed a Redline priced me out their oil. A relative has a Kia Sol and they ran it out of oil in between their normal 5,000 change interval. They towed it in because the rod knock limp mode software kicked in. Kia said the engine was toast and said they would buy it from him for $300 ( Huh???) I said go pick your car up and bring 4 Qts of oil to put in before. Then put in Valvoline R&P that same day. with a new Fram Endurance oil filter and watch your oil level weekly, run it for 4,000 and put Valvoline R&P/Fram Endurance back in again. The car is running fine so far, with no rod knock. We will see with time if their drastic oil consumption will be reduce or fixed.
