Walmart oil prices - Ah!

For every application/engine?
Is ESP better in a full bolt-on 90's era Ford Windsor 302 than EP HM?
I would be running M1 0w-40 or similar, like Havoline Pro DS 5W-40. Your not going to have any of the issues that might be helped by either of the other oils - unlikely to carbon / sludge, I am guessing your not trying to do very long OCI. 302 engine weak link were the rod bearings (undersized journals and the bolts were pretty wimpy also - unless you did aftermarket). So a thicker film can't hurt.

IMHO.

I ran M1 0W-40 F/S last change with a FRAM XG8A, ran whisper quiet and drained out clean.
Just seems to rev a little more free and equally quiet on it's new fill of M1 5W-30 EP HM and same XG8A.
I know the ESP line is the top tier of M1, just not sure it's chemistry is best utilized in use cases like my 302 (y)

@Pablo will probably remember better than I but I think Amsoil raised prices during Covid temporarily then they came back down. Not sure if they came down all the way or not. May not have been Covid either. I just remember seeing a temp increase then decrease. Maybe it will happen again; maybe...
I remember Amsoil prices going up during Covid for a bit as well

TBH I was seeing myself last night going to 2 walmart because castrol edge 10w30 is only thing they have left on sale for $23. Then I drive to another Walmart hoping to find 0w20 or 5w30 and buy 4-6 qt . On way there I said to myself what I am doing ?? Why hype up about these price where I spend hundred on hundred on other thing in life, I can just spend less on that and buy oil when my engine need, no need to storage oils, for what ? to save a few buck ? After thinking about that I felt a lot better and just turn around and go home. I’m back to my old self lol. I come here for fun and learn not for worried about thing I have no control about.

From time to time this site made me felt a lot worried but I had to kick myself out off it and just relax and enjoy life.

You gotta save on oil to spend on other things like bourbon, scotch, cigars; you know the important things! :ROFLMAO:

But it is fun to go shopping for a oil bargain and to try something NEW to you and your ride,

Should have checked Home Depot. Some stores have the Castrol Edge varieties on clearance for just over $3 for 5 qts.

You succumbed to BITOG peer pressure.

Now get out to the other walmarts in your area in case you missed any. No time to lose.

Mobil 1 flavors are $30.xx in north Florida. Even Supertech was $24-$30 for the 5 quart jugs here. Castrol jugs were on rollback for $23.xx, I bought one 5w-40 for an upcoming change.

If there are ten jugs of oil for sale and 12 potential buyers, the price will go up until two drop out. Is that better than empty shelves?
You have just referenced Economic pricing theory. Prices will tend to rise until demand falls to an unacceptable level.

Not sure I understand your empty shelves question. If I need oil, then I have little choice, in the short term at least. But Econ also teaches us that when prices rise too high consumers will seek out acceptable alternatives.

I believe he was refering to demand destruction. If you raise the price to a point that only the people that really need it, buy it, its better than having an artificially low price and having empty shelves.

What we are all witnessing with walmart oil prices is demand destruction. People would be wise to pay attention to this phenomenon - with a deglobalizing world it may be far more common going forward.

You might be right. People tend to think selling more product or service is the goal, but that is not correct. The Economic goal is profit. It may be better to limit the product to keep prices, and margins, higher. There is also "relevant range" which speaks to what it would cost to produce 1 more item beyond your production upper limit.

In command and control economies the government often sets the price for staples, like sugar and flour. Then people stand in line for hours in hopes of getting some, and often do not.

I would rather pay $100 for 5 quarts of oil if I really needed it rather than not having any available at any price.
