Walmart oil $$ increase going to change habbits ??

I was just wondering if with the oil price increases at walmart are any of you going to change your Oil preference ??

I've been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in my Windstar, but it is now $23.00 a jug. I'm thinking about a switch to either Synpower, or Quaker State Synthetic, at the $20.00 price point. Possibly Mobil 1, though at $22.00 it is only a buck cheaper than the PP. What are your thoughts ? What would be the best bang for the buck ?? I'm not interested in Supertech, or any other Warren oils. I'd also like to stay with a Syn oil, but if they start going above $25.00 a jug, I'll go back to Motorcraft Semi-syn.
I run a 5k oci, of mostly short trips, with some highway trips on the weekend. The van is a 2003 Ford Windstar with the 3.8, and 77k. And since I know some of you will be more concerned with whats in the AX4N attached to it. I flush the trans every 30k with Mercon V. It currently has Mobil Multi-Vehicle Mercon V fluid in it.

PP at $20 (for a 5 qt. jug) was a great deal. A jump of 60 cents a quart is substantial when you can still get the excellent Valvoline Synpower for $20.
 
Mobil 1 seems like the best deal now as far as Walmart syns go. The motorcraft 5w20 jug seems like the best deal going though.

Especially at $9 for the 5qt jug at AAP after the $10 coupon.
 
The Quaker State Synthetic is a fine oil for the money. I have used that or the Synpower Valvoline a lot. No problems. Ironically I had trouble with the Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil going bye bye so I went back.

Can't see why you would change the syn at 5,000 milesmWhat is the advantage of syn oil at conventional oil change intervals.
 
Do not know about the "habbits", but I am keeping my Frodo and Sam hobbits :-). As far as oil changing habits, I always bought oil on sale only, and I'll keep doing that.

I don't care about walmart raising oil price, I only buy oil on sale with rebate when it is less than $1/qt for dino, or less than $2/qt for synthetic.

The last oil purchased at Walmart was $1/qt for PP after rebate and $2/qt for M1, also after rebate.
 
I never see sales with syn for 2 bucks or less a quart, or a 1 buck a quart for dino. You guys out west get all the good deals.
Even with the price increase, walmart is still the cheapest for me. As most of the time the sales at AZ or AAP use a fram filter which I will never use so the sale is pointless for me. However if a good sale comes about with a Purolator I will scoop it up.
 
Get used to it...the first of a few price jumps...I doubt it will be 20 bucks again for a while...


I'm not going to let the increase bother me, still plan to run the same syn in my two cavs now, and buy whatever than cheapest syn is for the Balt...
 
I'll pay the few extra bucks, and get a rebate deal when I can. We live very close to work, so I only have to change the oil twice a year. PP is always on sale a couple of times a year, so I'll stock up when it happens. I'm also looking at getting my filters from Amazon.com to save a couple of bucks, so it all works out in the long run...
 
The price of $1/qt dino and $2/qt syn was after mail-in rebate(s). Last summer I got 20 quarts Peak oil + 4 Proline oil filter from Pep Boys for free after mail-in rebate. A year of two ago I got paid a few bucks to use Synpower with two separate rebates, 1 rebate from Kragen and another rebate from Valvoline for the same purchase.

You only have to look as far as the rebate/sale section on this forum. If you follow it regularly you will find all kinds of deals. I have 300 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum, Quaker State Torque Power, Mobil 1, Quaker State Q Horsepower and Castrol EDGE in my basement all at an average cost of $1.87/qt from all the sales and rebates and closeouts. Earlier this year I was buying Quaker State Torque Power for $9 for a 5qt jug at Walmart and geting a $10 rebate from QS. Oil seems to go on closeout about every 2 years. So stock up when it does because the shelf life is 5 years. I am still using the BOGO Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 I got at AAP in 2007. Just posted a great UOA with it from my Lexus.

If you shop you can save 50-60% or more on synthetic oils.
 
I'm not gonna worry about a few bucks for an engine that costs thousands. But, if you guys are worried, you could just extend your oil changes a thousand miles and recoup that price increase.

The 5qt jugs of M1 were something like $25-26 dollars for years at WM. Maybe the last year at the most did the price come down to $22 a jug.
