Walmart low on oil

Was talking to real dad last night. Had to laugh when he said he could not find any conventional oil. I said “dad, this isn’t the 50’s or 70’s and synthetic and synthetic blends meet manufacturer specs, a conventional never will”

Shelves pretty much packed at my local Menards. They never stock much Mobil anyway, but the Valvoline, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Rotella, FVP, etc. are fully stocked.

Same here in Louisville... The Wal Marts I go to have plenty of oil and filters and also the local Meijers also... No shortage around here...

That Menards stocks A LOT more engine oil than the Menards around here. Are you in Wisconsin, by chance ? I only ask that because there I suspect Menards is almost like a Walmart to many people, where they can buy a large variety of goods. Even at ours, we can buy some "groceries" and they have a surprisingly decent selection. When people think of a Menards being similar to Lowes or Home Depot, they are to some degree but Lowes or HD sell ZERO food except for candy bars in the checkout aisles.

Has anyone here realized there are and has been product shortages even before the pandemic? It just happens to be noticeable to everyone today.

It's allotment folks. And it goes by region and varies store to store in that region. The serving distribution center for the stores it serves is only allotted so much product. Corporate simply cannot obtain all they want. If Game Stop or Walmart sells out of Sony PS5's, they simply cant order all they want to sell more.

But those prices are 25-30% more than Walmart. I see QS at $22 for 5 qts, where it's $15 at WM. Single qts are $8, vs. $6 at WM... Most retailers charging 20% more, like hardware and auto parts stores, are still stocked quite well.

I took these pictures a couple months ago at my local WMs, and was just in this week and it's about the same. Very low inventory. Big empty spaces. Fronted product, with 60-80% empty behind it.

It looks like it depends on the grade. I’m showing $20.87 at WalMart for QSUD 0w-20 and Menards has it for $21.99 normally, but $19.57 after rebate.

QSUD 5w-30 definitely cheaper though at WalMart.

Minnesota, but close to the Wisconsin border. The nearest Menards in Wisconsin is a smaller store overall, but they have a better selection of oil. They even stock “euro” oils like M1 0w-40 and Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0w-40 which most locations don’t. I mostly buy “euro” oils and WalMart is still the best place for that.

Yeah, Menards has massively increased their grocery sections recently. It’s about the only place I shop nowadays - can get it all 😄.

Haha, we could never do our normal grocery shopping there but if we saw a good deal on something or saw some 'local' product from the WI region, we might get it to try it.

I went there yesterday to get some 5W30 and had a hard time finding it. I needed 7 qts and the only oil to get me a jug of 5 Qts and 2 single qts was Castrol FS 5W30. Was hoping for some QSUD or SuperTech, but they had none. Valvoline and Pennzoil was very low too. Next time I may just order online with free shipping.

went to wallyworld to get Shell Rotella 15W40 and they had nothing for my truck. This was in Bristol, CT

when my local wallys dont have what i want walmart.com usually does. shipping varies from free to $35 mininum now. just got 5 qt container quaker state ultimate durability + 10 70% cocao green + black healthy chocolate bars often out in store, but first time for oil supplies being so low or out!!

Yeah, Walmart here has been low as well. There would be times that stock would be low and I would not give it another thought and days later the shelves would be all filled up. I haven't seen filled up shelves in some time now. Quite surprising.

They are trying to balance pea's on a knife edge since no one wants to work.
For poverty wages, no healthcare, a constantly changing schedule, and still need foodstamps to survive.

Need more workers???
Pay more money.
Provide good healthcare.
Set a dependable schedule.

People don't want to work in garbage conditions. What's so hard to realize about that?

If you can't attract workers, maybe your business model is broken.

There seems to be a lot of Walmart hate or dislike and I do not understand why.
Think it depends on where you are like all else. Some small towns like mine have Walmart workers with the 20 year badges etc. The auto section is run by an ex mechanic who sold his shop for a simple gig …
Most of them are dual income folks anyway and they live within their means.
Homes are not expensive here etc … Millions have it worse …
