Walmart Gives You Less Oil

Just noticed this when I stocked up on Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 because of the current $10 rebate.

The 2 jugs on the left are from Walmart, the 2 on the right from AAP. Notice how the Walmart jugs have a lower oil level? The Walmart jugs are 5.0 quarts and the AAP jugs are 5.1 quarts.

I remember this being the opposite in the past. The Walmart jugs gave you more.

Doesn't the WalMart jug gives you 5.0 quarts and the AAP 5.1 quarts, just as advertised?

Doesn't it say that on the front? 5.0/5.1 quarts? I think Wal-mart has a patent, or trade mark, or contract on the 5.0 jugs. They get around it by offering 5.1 quarts in other places.

i saw that also many times... I thought it may be the jugs that are not made 100%
I see some that look 1/2 a quart low... I usually take 5 or 6 of the jugs and put them together and let them sit for a few minutes to see which ones are the most full

So, what is your point exactly? The oil level is lower because 5.0 is less than 5.1.

Yes it's just as advertised. I was just commenting that 1) it seems silly to even offer a 5.1 qt jug, and 2) I thought it was Walmart that had exclusivity on the 5+ or 5.1 quart jugs, and the auto stores all had the 5.0 quart jugs. At least that's what I remember with the Castrol GTX and Pennzoil Conventional I used to buy.

This was my point.

Read much? Jesus.

We've discussed it in the past. The reason for having 5.1 qt vs 5 is to make it difficult/impossible for consumers to attempt price match. You can't price match if the quantities are different, and therefore the product is different.

Not to my recollection. Walmart jugs have always been either 5qt or 4qt. Other stores had 5.1.

Or to buy oil at walmart and attempt to refund it at a autoparts store for a $10 profit.

From what I remember, years back autoparts chains only had gallon(4 quart)jugs and Walmart had the 5 quart jugs. Maybe that's what the OP is referring to?

How could you return it to an auto part store if your purchase receipt was from Walmart?

Now this makes the most sense to me. Thank you!

Bingo! 5 qts. is 5 qts., and 5.1 qts. is 5.1 qts. Anything less would be against the law, they are giving you the exact amount of oil that's on the container. The dept of weights and measures makes sure of that. They just don't want price matching or taking back oil from another store.

I am lucky because my local Oriellys does not ask me for a receipt but then again the manager likes me because I bring my 2 youngest kids every time I go there and I recycle a lot of oil there.

I read your initial post as if accusing Walmart of giving a customer less oil than what's actually written on the jug label. If that was not the case, then my bad.

I'm afraid to inform you he is not Jesus, QuattroPete is only QuattroPete. (That I'm aware of)
